🤝💛 Loneliness negatively impacts both mental and physical wellbeing - older people experiencing loneliness are about 25% more likely to develop dementia.

It’s a big issue – but it isn’t inevitable. It doesn’t take much to make a difference.

This , could you make time for one meaningful connection? Could you invite your neighbour in for a cup of tea and a chat, rather than just saying a quick hello over the fence?

(If loneliness is something you’re experiencing, we’re here to help. Please reach out by phone - 0345 450 1276, email - [email protected] or Facebook Messenger.)

⚽💜 Not everyone looks forward to the big game. For some people, the World Cup can bring fear, anxiety or uncertainty at home. Major sporting events don’t cause domestic abuse, but they can make existing abuse worse.

If you feel unsafe, anxious or isolated, help is available. The abuse is never your fault, and you are not alone.

For advice and support, visit Reducing the Risk of Domestic Abuse or contact one of the helplines below. If you are in immediate danger, call 999.

For around 10,000 older people in Oxfordshire, the bus isn’t just transport — it’s a chance for human connection.

Connection doesn’t need to be big to matter.

This , could you make time for one meaningful connection? Why not try to start a conversation the next time you’re on a bus?

In Oxfordshire, 1 in 40 older people go a whole week without speaking to a friend or family member.

Loneliness negatively impacts both mental and physical wellbeing.
It doesn’t take much to make a difference.

This , could you make time for one meaningful connection? Why not pick up the phone and give an older person you know a call?

Great to join the Because Talking Matters Coffee Morning at Bicester East Community Centre for for a warm, welcoming morning focused on wellbeing, movement and connection.

It was lovely to see people enjoying the seated dance session, hand massages and mindfulness activities, alongside a chat over refreshments and and conversations about how we can support them.

🚌🚏 The next stop is: Age UK Oxfordshire!

You might spot us on a bus in Oxfordshire this week.

For Age Without Limits Day, we’re sharing a simple message across local bus screens – celebrating later life and helping more people know who we are.

There’s a lot that people continue to do, achieve and enjoy as they get older. And when things feel a bit more challenging, there is support available if you need it.

We're here to help people stay independent, active and connected — please share to help spread the word.

❓🧡 Ageism is often subtle, but it affects how people are treated, included and valued as they grow older.

This Age Without Limits Day, we’re supporting the call to question ageism. That means noticing the assumptions we make about age, and the impact they can have on people’s lives.

Across Oxfordshire, we’re committed to challenging ageism and helping create a fairer later life — where people feel seen, heard, included and valued.

🏳️‍🌈🧡 We had a fantastic time at Oxford Pride on Saturday, celebrating inclusion, connection and community. Despite the weather, it was wonderful to speak with so many people throughout the day, and especially to be joined by members of our Silver Pride group.

We’re proud to support older LGBTQ+ people to build friendships, share experiences and feel part of a welcoming community. Find out more about our groups: https://buff.ly/YjzDSWi

🧡✨ This , we’re recognising and celebrating unpaid carers across Oxfordshire and the vital role they play in helping older people live well at home and in their communities.

Thank you for the care, time and support you give every day — often quietly and without recognition. This year’s theme, Building Carer-Friendly Communities, highlights the difference supportive communities can make in the lives of carers everywhere.

Unpaid carers might be helping with everyday tasks like shopping, preparing meals, managing medication, attending appointments, or providing emotional support.

Many people don’t see themselves as carers — they’re simply looking after a partner, relative, friend or neighbour. But support is available. Our sister organisation, Carers Oxfordshire offers free information, advice and personalised support for unpaid adult carers across the county.
