Our Tuesday team just completed their final session from our temporary storage unit, as we prepare to move back in to our newly refurbished building in the next week!

We have managed to maintain a full service throughout the summer in greatly reduced space and during the many heatwaves, and the end is now in sight!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARRY & BILL!

We recently celebrated two of our longstanding volunteers 80th birthdays! Barry and Bill are a core part of our welcoming team at Abingdon Foodbank. Bill is always ready with a smile and a great sense of humour to serve tea, coffee, cake and biscuits, while Barry helps our clients to go through the list of items available and put together the requirements of their emergency parcels. Barry has also done plenty of supermarket food collections, driving and helping at food drives. They are both foodbank superstars and we wish them both a very happy birthday and big thank you for all they do to help us! 🎂

Thank you to Ben and Lucinda who came from Carter Jonas in Summertown to spend a session with us!

We tasked them with organising the fresh fruit and vegetable parcels, as well as toiletries, pet food and cleaning products, and they smashed it!

In July 2026, your donations helped Abingdon Foodbank to distribute 187 emergency food parcels to people facing hardship in Abingdon and the surrounding villages.

These parcels fed 494 people, of which 194 were children.

Wow! Abingdon's pet lovers, you have shown us so much support!!❤️

A fantastic afternoon spent at Abingdon Pets at Home, thank you so much to manager Cat for welcoming us back, and to Imran, Ebony and Michael for helping us out today and being so friendly and supportive of our work at Abingdon Foodbank!

Not only did customers buy us some pet food donations to add to our permanent in-store donation basket, you topped up your totals at the tills, and bought every single dog and cat food parcel the in-store team have packaged up!

We had a really touching conversation with a customer who told us if it wasn't for our foodbank and the pet food we gave, a family member wouldn't have been able to keep their dog. They are now getting back on their feet and still have their lovely pup by their side.

This is why we do it!! Pets are family too ❤️
Not only do we provide emergency food for humans, we provide it for cats and dogs too, to lower the risk of animals being surrendered to shelters.

We'll be at Abingdon Pets at Home on Friday 14th August collecting cat and dog food donations to help local families in need.

There are lots of ways to support us:

1. If you have spare or unwanted pet food at home you can bring it in to us and we'll take it to our central donation storage
2. You can make a purchase in store for us and drop it with our volunteers on your way out or in our permanent donation basket in store
3. You can buy a treat bag for your own pet with proceeds going to the Blue Cross and Pets Foundation who we work in partnership with
4. You can add a small top-up donation to any puchase at the till which will go towards the Pets Foundation and we will receive a voucher

Helping families stay together avoids more animals being surrendered to rescue centres, and we proudly support our furry friends in need! 🐾
