Vickie - Singing Mamas - Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire A grassroots non-profit movement looking to improve women’s wellbeing through community singing

Whilst most of the country was getting ready to watch England play last night in the World Cup, 16 of us retreated to a local daisy field, surrounded by woodlands for our Solstice Sing.

It was so beautiful connecting to nature, standing around the sundial, watching the sky change colour and inviting the women to come and stand in the centre of the circle for a soothing sound bath.

What a way to spend a Wednesday evening hey?!

It’s making me very excited to be holding a whole day of singing up at in August 🥰

When women gather in circle to sing we’re doing so much more than having fun.

As our voices join together our nervous systems begin to regulate, our breathing deepens, the stress and emotions we’ve been carrying start to soften and release. Through song we create space for connection and healing to happen naturally.

Singing in community reminds us that we are not alone. It grounds us in our bodies, lifts our spirits and reconnects us to something ancient and deeply human.

It’s beautiful when women remember the power of gathering and raising their voices together. We come for the singing and leave feeling calmer, lighter and more alive.

Lately, I’ve been noticing how much I rush. Rushing from one thing to the next, rushing my thoughts, rushing through the day as though there’s always something waiting just around the corner. The more stressed I feel the faster I seem to move.

Sometimes I wonder am I just rushing because everything around me feels too fast? Life moves so quickly now and there is always somewhere to be, something to answer, something to keep up with. It can feel like if we slow down we’ll fall behind.

And without even meaning to we pass that feeling on to our children. We rush them to get dressed, to get in the car, to finish their food, to grow up. But if you really watch them you realise that rushing isn’t their natural way at all.

Children stop to notice things, they take their time and are fully in the moment noticing everything and taking life as it comes. It’s got me thinking that that’s the lesson children can teach us. When we feel overwhelmed, anxious and stretched thin the answer isn’t to move faster and try harder to keep up, this is actually when we need to slow down and notice what’s right in front of us.

If you find yourself rushing around today perhaps try singing this wonderful song Rushing by Wendy Luella Perkins and see what affect it has on you and on your day, see how many sweet little moments you can saviour.

I know from the outside it probably looks like any other stay & play — there’s mats out, toys everywhere and babies & toddlers doing their thing but it’s not really that.

It’s actually a pause for mums. Somewhere you can sit down and sing songs for yourself, 90 minutes where you can breathe a little deeper and not feel like you’ve got to keep anyone entertained or hold it all together.

There’s no “Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall” here (sorry- not sorry) but your little one won’t mind because they still get to hear their favourite sound in the world, your voice. I mean, just listen to the sounds this happy chappy is making 🥰

If you’d like to join us in Grove on a Tuesday morning send me a DM 🧡

Thanks to a wonderful mama who let me share this recording of her signing to her twin boys last week 😊

I wasn’t going to share this video.
I thought I’d capture a sweet moment of me singing “Rock yourself” by .uk in the garden with my youngest- a beautifully soothing song but my nearly 6 year old had other ideas 😂

Honestly I thought “no one wants to see this on their feed” but I’ve been inspired by to share the messy/ real / unpolished sides of being a creative and parent.

This is what life looks and sounds like in our little corner of the world and I wouldn’t change it for anything 🧡
