☀️♨️ Hot weather can bring extra challenges for unpaid carers, particularly when you’re balancing your own wellbeing alongside caring responsibilities.

Please check in on neighbours, friends and relatives who may be more vulnerable in the heat — a quick chat or helping hand can make a real difference.

If you’re an unpaid carer, remember to look after yourself as well as the person you care for. Taking simple steps to stay cool, hydrated and safe can make a big difference for both of you during hot weather.

Make sure you check in regularly, plan ahead and look out for signs that either you or the person you care for may be struggling in the heat.

Anyone can become unwell when the weather is hot, but some are at higher risk than others. If you care for someone who is older, has a long-term health condition or may find it more difficult to stay cool and hydrated in hot weather, we have some new advice available.

💙🗨️ Could your caring experience help someone else feel less alone?

We’re looking for a volunteer for our Carers Phone Friends service to support a parent caring for a young child with complex needs. They’re hoping to connect with someone who understands the ups and downs of caring — particularly someone with experience of supporting a child with additional needs or who has been on a similar journey.

A regular phone call and a chance to talk to someone who truly understands can make a big difference.

If you think you could offer a listening ear and some friendly support, we’d love to hear from you: https://buff.ly/Z5T7ICZ

🎗️ 🤝 This , we're recognising that caring for someone else can be isolating. When so much of your time and energy is focused on supporting another person, it can be difficult to stay connected to friends, hobbies and the things that matter to you.

You don't have to face it alone. From telephone befriending to carer support groups, we can help you connect with others who understand the realities of caring and find support that's right for you.

💬📢 A new Government consultation is giving unpaid carers the opportunity to share their experiences of balancing work and caring responsibilities.

The consultation is exploring how employment rights could better support carers, including reviewing current support such as Carer’s Leave and considering what further changes may be needed.

Whether you’re currently working, have reduced your hours, or have faced challenges combining work and caring, your experience matters and could help shape future support.

You can respond to the consultation here: https://tinyurl.com/4tucnfva

💚 Thank you to Hazel and Adam for sharing their story during .

We’ve been pleased to support Hazel with advice, guidance and opportunities to connect with other carers. Her story is a reminder that carers don’t have to manage everything alone, and that asking for support can make a real difference.

You can read more about Hazel and Adam’s experience in Care Matters: https://buff.ly/HwuD8oq

Hazel has spent many years caring for loved ones, first for her late husband, and now for her friend Adam, who relies on daily support following serious illness.

Caring can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Hazel describes it as something you “can’t do alone”.

With support from Oxfordshire County Council and Carers Oxfordshire, Hazel was able to:

✅Access a carers assessment
✅Get help applying for Carer’s Allowance
✅Receive advice to support her health and wellbeing
✅Connect with other carers and join support courses

This support has also given Adam reassurance, helping them plan for the future.

Hazel’s message to other carers: don’t be afraid to ask for help, it can make a huge difference.

And that’s a wrap on our coverage.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to all unpaid carers across Oxfordshire for everything you do — the care, time and commitment you give every day, often without recognition.

It’s been a privilege to get out and about across the county this week, meeting some of you at drop-in sessions, hearing first-hand about your experiences, and providing information, advice and support where needed.

If you or someone you know needs support, or you think you might be an unpaid carer, please take a look at the resources on our website or get in touch with us for a chat. We’re here to help.
