A better world for tomorrow… that was the theme for the international summer gathering hosted by the Abingdon Peace Group yesterday. I was honoured to say a few words on behalf of One Planet Abingdon. ‘We know that the international community in Abingdon includes many who have been forcibly displaced by climate breakdown, war and oppression. We also know that conflicts are increasing around the world and are now more than was experienced during WW2. Climate breakdown is accelerating as a result of these conflicts. Forced migration is therefore also on the increase. Thus we cannot view climate breakdown and wars separately anymore. The destruction of our beautiful planet and people’s lives is evident. So where does that leave us in peaceful Abingdon? We come together, like this. We demonstrate kindness. Compassion. Love. Solidarity. We celebrate our diversity. We build resilience and strengthen our resolve. To truly care for one another. We are in this together. And when we come together, there is hope. We commit to become the best versions of ourselves. For love. For peace.’ There was sharing of favourite dishes of food, dancing, music and community. It was a beautiful and hopeful celebration of solidarity and friendship.

It felt right that the Wear it Out Fashion and Textiles Extravaganza was opened by our young people ✊🏻 The children’s Rag Tutu Opening Parade 🥁🥁🥁!! It is their futures we are trying to preserve 🌎 Thank you to the Rainbows, and supporters for joining in! A special thank you to the Town Crier for the excellent cry and to for playing the drum in this instance 🥁😉
