Transforming Family Life Education (FLE) in Chuuk!

30 dedicated teachers and central office staff from the Chuuk Department of Education gathered for a five-day workshop to finalize syllabi, develop comprehensive lesson plans, and design teacher guides for the FLE program. Participants collaborated to ensure educators are fully equipped to deliver impactful, age-appropriate guidance to students. The workshop successfully concluded with clear roadmaps and actionable implementation plans for Chuuk.

"I hope the lesson plans will help teachers explain sensitive topics with confidence and especially give them step-by-step instruction on how to deliver it,” said Sheena, a participant at the workshop.

Under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the celebration created space for young people to strengthen their knowledge, exchange ideas and gain practical skills that can help them navigate opportunities, make informed choices and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Because investing in young people means investing not only in their aspirations, but in the skills, knowledge and opportunities to turn those aspirations into action.

In the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Maila, retired midwife Keithy was among the health workers deployed to provide services in Choiseul Province in Solomon Islands to ensure mothers and newborns received the care they needed when it mattered most.

Fiji Law Reform Commission and Online Safety Commission brought together government agencies, civil society, UN agencies and other partners to validate the findings and proposed recommendations of Review of the Online Safety Act of 2018.
This review is particularly timely given growing concerns around online harms, including technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

UNFPA Pacific remains committed to supporting the Government of Fiji and partners in strengthening a safe, inclusive online environment. We look forward to working together to ensure that the recommendations emerging from this review can be translated into practical and sustainable protections for people across Fiji.

𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: UNFPA Pacific reaffirmed its commitment to strategic investments in sexual and reproductive health and Rights (SRHR), quality education (including family life education), skills development, and decent employment—vital steps toward building demographic resilience across Fiji and the Pacific.

In Samoa, Family Life Education (FLE) is already equipping over 45,000 young people across grades 1 to 12 with the life skills, confidence, and knowledge to make healthy, informed decisions about their well-being and relationships.

Now, we are taking the next critical step toward sustainable change: preparing future teachers before they even enter the classroom.
