We remember. We stand. We act.
------------------------------
19 June marks the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict — a day to raise awareness of the devastating impact of conflict-related sexual violence and to honor survivors around the world.

While conflict may look different across countries, the message remains the same:

Every woman, child, and person has the right to live free from violence, fear, and abuse.

As communities in Fiji, we each have a role in creating safer spaces — through education, advocacy, speaking up, and supporting survivors.

A world without violence begins with the choices we make today.
Psalm Chpt. 82 Verse 3-4.

CEDAW Concluding Observations Training Workshop
----
Last week two of our FJ YWCA NEC Board members completed a 2-day (13/05- 14/05/26) Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Concluding Observations Training Workshop.

We extend our appreciation to the Fiji Women's Rights Movement for opening up this important space for our young women from the faith-based NGO sector to participate, learn, and grow.

Grounded in our Christian commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity, these opportunities continue to strengthen our understanding of CEDAW, especially the reporting processes that guide Fiji in advancing the rights of women and girls.

Reflections by our NEC Vice President Mereani Nawadra mentioned "Day 1 was informative and highly participatory. The presentations and group discussions provided a clearer understanding of Fiji’s obligations under CEDAW and the current status of implementation. The group activities were especially useful in identifying areas where advocacy and collaborative action are needed. For Fiji YWCA, the workshop reaffirmed the importance of our continued engagement in promoting women’s rights and contributing to national efforts to ensure full implementation of CEDAW recommendations."

As mentioned by FWRM "A strong understanding of (The actual Convention, the Fiji Govt. CEDAW States report, the NGOCHR's shadow report & the most recent UN CEDAW Committee observation report of Fiji) is not just useful background knowledge- It is what equips civil society to hold the government accountable, identify gaps, and push for meaningful change on priority areas such as gender-based violence, women's economic rights, child marriage, health, access to justice, political participation, and the rights of rural and marginalised women."

FWRM goes on to mention the outcomes of the training as- "The 2-day workshop ended with collective action planning, where partners mapped out concrete ways to address priority areas across the Coalition's work, identified monitoring approaches, and committed to shared next steps."

Through faith and action, our young women continue to be better equipped to advocate for justice, hold leaders accountable, and support meaningful change—especially for the most vulnerable in our communities.

Vinaka vakalevu FWRM for your partnership, and for opening up the space and continuing to invest in the next generation of women leaders across the NGO sectors.

This Mother’s Day, we honour and celebrate the love, sacrifice, strength, and faith of mothers everywhere. 🌸💛

As we come to the end of the Mother's Day week, we also reflect on the 2026 Methodist Mother’s Day theme, “Let us be good examples of Faith in Jesus in our homes and everywhere” (“Meda sa idusidusi vinaka ni vakabauti Jisu ena noda vuvale kei na veivanua kecega”). May we continue to uplift and encourage women who lead with compassion, humility, and unwavering faith.

To every mother, grandmother, caregiver, and mother figure — thank you for being pillars of love and guidance in our homes, communities, and society. Your prayers, sacrifices, and strength continue to inspire and carry Generations.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy International Day of the Midwife.

International Day of the Midwife, marked each year on 5 May, celebrates the essential role midwives play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of women, newborns, and families around the world.
The 2026 theme, “One Million More Midwives,” highlights an urgent global need: without enough well-trained and supported midwives, many communities face preventable risks during pregnancy and childbirth.
Strengthening this workforce is critical not only for saving lives, but for ensuring respectful, culturally appropriate, and high-quality care for every mother and baby.

A few key actions are needed to continue to build a stronger future for midwifery, and they are not limited to the following;

- We must invest in and recognize midwives as vital healthcare providers, with policies that enable them to work to their full scope of practice.

- We must prioritize education, skills development, and proper resourcing, so midwives can deliver safe, high-quality care in supportive environments.

- We must strengthen midwifery leadership, ensuring midwives have a voice in decision-making and can collaborate equally with other health professionals.

Together, these actions will help grow, empower, and sustain the midwifery workforce our communities urgently need.

Friday 24th April, 2026- World YWCA Day; Celebrating this years theme- Forward, Together!
______________________________________
On this World YWCA Day 2026, we are reminded that our strength lies in moving forward—together. Across generations, women and young women must continue to lead with courage, guided by faith, to uplift awareness, pursue social justice, and respond to the challenges of our time.

Now more than ever, we are called to rebuild connections, nurture intergenerational leadership, and take collective action to confront conflict, injustice, and the climate crisis. Through Christian-guided advocacy, we stand united in hope and purpose.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many” — Matthew 20:28

Every true act of service begins and is made meaningful through Jesus Christ. The Bible shows us that serving others isn’t just a good deed—it’s a reflection of Him living in us.

In every act of love, every sacrifice, and every moment we choose others before ourselves, we are following Jesus's example.

Let our service reflect his unconditional love. Let Jesus's example of leadership continue to be the foundation and blueprint of our service to others. 🙏

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” — John 1:29 ✨

This verse reminds us that Jesus came to save us all, carrying our burdens and giving us the gift of forgiveness and new life. We are truly blessed and grateful for this love—a love so great that it brings hope and freedom to our hearts.

But as we give thanks for being saved, we are also called to remember others—those who are still hurting, still struggling, or whom continue to suffer in silence. May this truth move us to show and share compassion, to reach out and check-in, and to be a beacon that reflects Jesus Christ's unconditional Love in someone else’s life.

Let us live not only in gratitude, but also in kindness and love, reflecting the heart of Christ in all that we do. 🙏💛
