From fossil fuel reliance to renewable energy transition.

Todayโ€™s United Nations โ€“ UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji Policy Dialogue on Renewable Energy brought together partners from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu to reflect on progress, share experiences, and explore practical solutions to accelerate the transition to renewables.

The dialogue highlighted key successes, ongoing challenges, and the collective effort required to advance energy security and resilience across the region.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and engagement throughout the discussion, including opening remarks delivered by H.E. Mrs. Viranria Brown, High Commissioner of Vanuatu to Fiji.

Together, we continue working towards a more sustainable, secure, and resilient energy future for the Pacific.

Hate speech is more than hurtful language. It can fuel discrimination, violence, conflict and division, undermining trust and social cohesion.

On the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, Dirk Wagener - UN Resident Coordinator in Fiji joins the United Nations Secretary-General's call to reject prejudice in all its forms and uphold dignity, respect and human rights for all.

In an increasingly digital world, each of us has a role to play in challenging hate, supporting those targeted by abuse, and promoting understanding and solidarity in our communities.

Watch his message below.

The story continues with Galumalemana Peseta Lakisa Toelupe, a dedicated women representative serving her community in Malie with purpose and commitment.

With years of service, Galumalemana reminds us that leadership is not always easy, it comes with challenges, long days, and constant responsibility. Yet, what keeps her going is the impact of her work and the positive changes she sees in the lives of others.

Her approach to leadership is simple yet powerful:
โ€œ๐‘พ๐’๐’Ž๐’†๐’ ๐’Š๐’ ๐’๐’†๐’‚๐’…๐’†๐’“๐’”๐’‰๐’Š๐’‘ ๐’Š๐’” ๐’•๐’ ๐’๐’†๐’‚๐’… ๐’ƒ๐’š ๐’†๐’™๐’‚๐’Ž๐’‘๐’๐’†."

By walking alongside families, supporting those in need, and staying committed to her community, she continues to inspire others and build a stronger, healthier village.

As we continue our storytelling series, we celebrate women like Galumalemana whose leadership is rooted in service, resilience, and action.

The United Nations recently carried out a mission to Tuvalu as part of the Pacific Common Analysis, the UN systemโ€™s shared assessment of development challenges and priorities across the Pacific.

During the mission, the team engaged closely with the government, civil society, private sector, development partners, and island community leaders to gather local insights into Tuvaluโ€™s sustainable development and climate resilience context.

These contributions will help inform the UNโ€™s analysis and future programming, particularly in identifying forward-looking priorities guided by the principle of Leave No One Behind.

The mission also reaffirmed Tuvaluโ€™s global leadership in advocating for climate action, highlighting the countryโ€™s vital role in amplifying Pacific voices and ensuring that communities most at risk remain central to regional and global efforts.

This inclusive approach strengthens the foundation for partnerships aimed at achieving a resilient and sustainable Blue Pacific future.

On Saturday, the United Nations joined the Fiji Ministry of Environment and Climate Change at the World Environment and World Ocean Day Clean-Up at the Suva Foreshore.

In the spirit of this yearโ€™s World Environment Day theme, โ€œInspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.โ€, we joined communities and partners in protecting our coastline, caring for our ocean, and taking collective action towards a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.

Every action counts. By working together, we can safeguard our environment, strengthen resilience, and support Pacific communities on the frontline of climate change.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change commemorated World Environment Day and World Oceans Day 2026 on Saturday, 6 June.

Close to 200 participants gathered at Suva Point Park for the launch of June Environment and Oceans Month, bringing together development partners, NGOs, academia, civil society organisations, volunteer groups, government ministries and members of the public.

From children picking up litter alongside their parents to volunteers collecting rubbish and planting coastal trees , the day highlighted the impact of collective action in protecting our environment.

The launch also marked the start of a month-long calendar of activities, including a National Oratory Competition, a National Poster Competition and a nationwide Community Beautification Competition. These competitions are open throughout June, with exciting prizes to be won and opportunities to be featured on Fiji Government social media platforms.

The Ministry acknowledges and thanks all partners, organizations, volunteers and participants whose support and commitment continue to drive positive environmental action across Fiji.

Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all.
