Droughts fueled by human destruction of the environment cost more than US$307 billion per year đź’¸, and are projected to affect 3 in 4 people by 2050.
🌱💦Sustainable land and water management is essential to reduce the costs of drought, and the estimated costs of implementing such measures amount to a fraction of the costs of drought every year, according to a new report launched this week at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
The study draws on evidence and case studies from countries all around the world —including Chile, India, Jordan, Kenya, Spain, and Tunisia— to make the economic and business case for nature-based solutions for drought. Such practices restore ecosystem functions and soil health to enhance water flow, storage, and supply in support of human wellbeing —for example, reforestation, grazing management, and the restoration and conservation of watersheds.
