UN Women was proud to have the Breaking Ground documentary screened at the Women Deliver 2026 Conference during โBreaking Ground: Stories of Power, Sport, and Community Change," organised by Women Win.
The event explored how sport is being mobilised to challenge violence, shift harmful gender norms and create economic opportunities for women and girls, positioning sport as a powerful pathway for feminist movements.
The session featured an inspiring panel:
๐น Rusila Nagasau โFijian rugby star, two-time Olympian and Olympic bronze medallist, who captained Fiji to victory at the Rugby World Cup Sevens and was named Fiji Sportswoman of the Year in 2022.
๐น Marlee Silva โ proud Gamilaroi and Dunghutti woman, author, sports journalist and host, whose work centres storytelling for social change, including her documentary Skin In The Game on sport and gendered violence.
๐น Alison Davidian โ UN Women Fiji MCO Representative leading work on gender equality across 14 Pacific Island countries.
๐น Tahina Booth โ sport for development leader and founder of a women-led organisation in Papua New Guinea, driving community-based programmes linking sport, gender equality and public health.
From grassroots programmes to global platforms, speakers highlighted how investing in womenโs leadership in sport can drive lasting change โ strengthening communities, shifting norms and creating safer, more inclusive spaces for women and girls.
The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, bringing together practitioners, policymakers and partners to reflect on how sport can continue to advance gender equality across the Pacific and beyond.
The documentary initiative is led by Oceania Rugbyand UN Women, in collaboration with the Fiji Rugby , the Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports, and the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls programme funded primarily by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the European Union in the Pacific.
