๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡ธ| UN Women, in partnership with the Ministry of Lands and Survey (MLS), the Australian Government and key market stakeholders, proudly marked the handover of heavy-duty tarpaulins and a PA system at the MLS Salelologa Market, Savaii.

These upgrades are an investment in the women vendors who form the backbone of Samoa's markets and a direct response to urgent requests from the Market Management and Market Vendors Association. By providing durable weather protection and improved communication systems, the initiative helps create a safer, more comfortable, and climate-resilient environment for both vendors and customers. It also reflects the shared commitment of partners to advancing gender-responsive and inclusive public spaces supporting women's economic empowerment and strengthening community resilience for the future.

The Markets for Change continues to strengthen working together to build stronger, safer, more resilient and more inclusive market environments that empower women and support local economies in Samoa.

| UN Women was proud to contribute to a critical dialogue on using violence against women data and evidence to drive action at Women Deliver, alongside key partners across the UN system, civil society and the donor community organised by World Health Organization Western Pacific Region.

Across the week, Pacific voices and experts have been taking up space, shaping global conversations with grounded, evidence-based insights from the region. This session highlighted both progress and persistent gaps in translating data into policy, financing and real impact.

The discussion underscored the urgent need to move beyond siloed approaches, strengthen prevention systems and ensure that financing, from national budgets to climate and infrastructure investments, meaningfully integrates violence prevention.

Speakers also reinforced that the most effective solutions are women-led, community-driven and grounded in lived experience and that sustained, flexible funding and political commitment are essential to scaling this work.

๐ŸŒ | ๐Ÿ’ฌ "Sport is not separate from the fight for gender equality - it is right at the centre of it. It reflects our societies, but it also has the power to reshape them. When women run, tackle, lead, and win, they do more than score points. They challenge the idea that strength belongs to one gender and expand whatโ€™s possible for everyone watching. "- UN Women Fiji MCO Representative Alison Davidian.

UN Women was proud to have the Breaking Ground documentary screened at the Women Deliver 2026 Conference during โ€œBreaking Ground: Stories of Power, Sport, and Community Change," organised by Women Win.

The event explored how sport is being mobilised to challenge violence, shift harmful gender norms and create economic opportunities for women and girls, positioning sport as a powerful pathway for feminist movements.

The session featured an inspiring panel:

๐Ÿ”น Rusila Nagasau โ€”Fijian rugby star, two-time Olympian and Olympic bronze medallist, who captained Fiji to victory at the Rugby World Cup Sevens and was named Fiji Sportswoman of the Year in 2022.

๐Ÿ”น Marlee Silva โ€” proud Gamilaroi and Dunghutti woman, author, sports journalist and host, whose work centres storytelling for social change, including her documentary Skin In The Game on sport and gendered violence.

๐Ÿ”น Alison Davidian โ€” UN Women Fiji MCO Representative leading work on gender equality across 14 Pacific Island countries.

๐Ÿ”น Tahina Booth โ€” sport for development leader and founder of a women-led organisation in Papua New Guinea, driving community-based programmes linking sport, gender equality and public health.

From grassroots programmes to global platforms, speakers highlighted how investing in womenโ€™s leadership in sport can drive lasting change โ€” strengthening communities, shifting norms and creating safer, more inclusive spaces for women and girls.

The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, bringing together practitioners, policymakers and partners to reflect on how sport can continue to advance gender equality across the Pacific and beyond.

The documentary initiative is led by Oceania Rugbyand UN Women, in collaboration with the Fiji Rugby , the Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports, and the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls programme funded primarily by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the European Union in the Pacific.
