As the very first YWCA member association in Ulsteinvik, Norway, celebrates 40 years of community, leadership, and solidarity, we are reminded that lasting change often begins with a simple act: creating space for women and young women to connect, learn, and support one another.

For generations, YWCA women have worked to advance gender equality, strengthen leadership, and advocate for the rights of women and girls. Their courage has shaped communities, influenced societies, and opened doors for those who followed.

Today, that work continues. Around the world, YWCA members are standing up for justice, defending hard-won rights, and building a future where every woman and young woman can thrive.

We celebrate the legacy-makers, the changemakers, and the next generation of leaders carrying the movement forward.

This week, we're proud to spotlight YWCA Angola's "Training Young Women in Income Management" project, empowering young women, youth, and persons with disabilities in Cazenga, one of Luanda's most vulnerable urban municipalities.

Through vocational training in sewing, pastry, interior design, computer skills, entrepreneurship, and cosmetology, the project equipped 200 participants with practical skills to generate income, pursue self-employment, and strengthen their economic independence. ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ

In response to Angola's challenging socio-economic landscape, the initiative combined skills development with community mobilisation, environmental education, radio outreach, and certification ceremonies, creating opportunities for participants to build brighter and more sustainable futures.

๐Ÿ‘ We celebrate YWCA Angola's commitment to advancing economic justice and creating pathways for young people to thrive.

Young women and adolescent girls are not passive witnesses to the climate crisis. We are leaders, organisers, advocates, and changemakers shaping climate justice solutions grounded in our lived realities.

At Women Deliver 2026 in Naarm, the Youth-Led Solutions Circle for Climate Justice moved beyond discussing what frontline communities are losing. Young people challenged top-down approaches and centred the solutions already being built in our communities, alongside the structural changes needed to create lasting impact.

Climate justice is not an abstract future issue. It is about displacement, food and water insecurity, care work, safety, livelihoods, health, and our connection to land, sea, and sky. It is the daily reality of communities experiencing the greatest impacts despite contributing the least to the crisis.

Across Asia and the Pacific, young women are already leading responses in their communities. They are educating, mobilising, advocating, caring, and creating practical solutions where climate action, gender justice, and community resilience intersect.

Global spaces matter when they move beyond performative listening. They matter when they shift power and resources closer to frontline communities, recognise lived experience as evidence, and value young women as decision-makers, strategists, and leadersโ€”not simply storytellers of hardship.

This is the climate justice leadership at the heart of RiseUp! Asia Pacific. ๐Ÿ’š

Grateful to ActionAid Australia, Shifting the Power Coalition, and Hauskuk Initiative for co-leading this important space, and to the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for supporting RiseUp! Asia Pacific and the young women leaders driving this work across our region.

Climate justice is not an abstract future issue.

For many young women and girls, the climate crisis is daily life: disrupted education, food and water insecurity, displacement, the crushing weight of unpaid care work, increased risk of sexual and gender based violence, and decreased access to menstrual hygiene and sexual and reproductive health services.

Across RiseUp! Asia Pacific, young women are not waiting for permission to respond. They are the authorities building practical interventions right now.

They are organising. Caring. Advocating. And by using the Feminist Consultation Methodology (FCM), they are moving beyond simply documenting the crisis โ€“ they are owning their own evidence, demanding that lived experience be treated as data, and shaping the solutions.

This World Environment Day, we are naming what young women leaders already know: climate justice is gendered, political and local.

It requires flexible, feminist resources.

It requires the physical and digital protection of frontline activists.

It means living the Intergenerational Triangle every day, moving past token youth consultations and building real structures for shared power, where communities lead the decisions that shape their lives.
With support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade , RiseUp! Asia Pacific invests in young womenโ€™s leadership across the region, especially at the intersection of climate, gender justice and community survival.

The project strengthened young womenโ€™s leadership in climate justice and environmental sustainability across three regions of Albania. Through the World YWCAโ€™s RiseUp! Leadership Guide and Feminist Consultation Methodology, 90 young women were equipped with the skills, confidence, and tools to design and lead climate initiatives in their own communities. ๐ŸŒฑ

The project prioritised the participation of young women from rural and low-income backgrounds, as well as LGBTQ+, ethnic minority, and disability communities, ensuring diverse voices are at the forefront of climate action. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’š

It's not too late to register for this important webinar supporting menstrual health awareness: โ€œBreaking the Blood Taboo."

Info to register linked below.

In many faith communities, menstruation is still not spoken about. No disposal bin in the restroom stall, no running water, no basic provision.

For approximately 500 million women and girls worldwide, this is not a peripheral inconvenience. It is period poverty, and it happens inside the buildings where dignity is preached.

"The church must take a stand for the sake of our women and girls, whose reproductive, hygiene and mental health are at risk." โ€” Rev. Nicole Ashwood, WCC programme executive for a Just Community of Women and Men.

On 4 June 2026 at 15:00 CET, the WCC, together with the International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development and Norwegian Church Aid, hosts a free 90-minute online webinar. Church leaders, youth leaders, faith-based facility managers, and menstrual health advocates are all welcome.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the YWCA Social Naming Competition.๐ŸŒโœจ

The World YWCA has recently refreshed and rebranded its social platform, envisioned as our movementโ€™s digital home โ€” a space where we can come together to share, learn, connect, and work side by side towards our shared mission. Created for our community, this platform is intended to be truly by you and for you.

This month, we invited our global community to help us name this new space, and we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming response. We received entries reflecting creativity, solidarity, vision, and a strong sense of belonging to the movement.๐Ÿ’ซ

Submissions have now officially closed, and we are excited to review all the inspiring ideas shared with us. The winning name will be announced in June 2026, and the selected name will become part of the platform as it continues to grow and evolve alongside our community.

Thank you once again for being part of this journey.๐Ÿ’œ

Menstrual health is about so much more than just products.

Itโ€™s about dignity.
Access.
Safety.
Language.
The freedom to ask questions, to speak without shame.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day lands right as Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, a perfect time to remember how deeply connected menstrual and mental health really are. Fiona Esha Sarker, Youth Facilitator with RiseUp! at the YWCA of Bangladesh, says it best:

โ€œMenstrual health is closely connected to mental health, because during this time there is a lot of emotional pressure and mood swings. If we learn to take care of ourselves during menstruation, our mental well-being will also improve, and periods will not feel like a burden to us. Supporting menstrual health means supporting mental health.โ€

Fiona also shared photos of young women in her community holding up signs in Bangla with two powerful messages:
๐Ÿ“ข โ€œKnowledge breaks misconceptions, everyone should know about menstruation.โ€
๐Ÿ“ข โ€œMenstruation is natural, not a matter of shame.โ€

This is the core of RiseUp! Asia Pacific: young women leading, creating spaces where menstrual health is named openly, safely, and in their own words.

Across RiseUp!, young women are challenging stigma, building knowledge, and making it possible for girls and young women to learn, organise, ask questions, and be heard with dignity. This is how change takes root and grows.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, letโ€™s remember: care isnโ€™t soft. Care is structural. It is the foundation for justice.

Menstrual justice is gender justice.

Thank you to for supporting RiseUp! Asia Pacific and the young women leaders shaping this work across the region.
