es in Badakhshan. History:

After decades of war, Afghanistan was a shattered country facing colossal challenges. This inspired the creation of the Bakhtar Development Foundation (BDF) in 2001 for community health projects. Subsequently changing the name to BD Network (BDN), the NGO's practices went on to receive awards and recognition for extraordinary achievements. In 2009, BDN started to embark on an international expansion and was registered in Geneva Switzerland in 2011. In 2015, the organization changed its name to Action for Development (AfD) to facilitate its globalization impact.

Last week, our director Zuhra Dadgar Shafiq, attended in a side event. The session focused on protecting essential and maternal health services, especially in low-resource and vulnerable communities.

➡️ Discussions emphasized the importance of:
🔹 Health equity
🔹 Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
🔹 Community-based healthcare systems
🔹 Continued support for women and children during global funding challenges

The event also highlighted how , , and weak systems disproportionately affect women, mothers, newborns, and vulnerable children.

➡️ This discussion strongly connects with Action for Development’s ongoing work:
Street Children Education Program
🔸 Supporting vulnerable children through access to education and protection
🔸 Helping reduce risks linked to poverty, child exploitation, and lack of healthcare access

Maternal Health & Midwifery Training
🔸 Strengthening local maternal and newborn healthcare services
🔸 Training midwives and frontline health workers to improve safe delivery and maternal care

💬 The side event reinforced the importance of grassroots action and local partnerships in achieving global health goals. We are proud to see Action for Development contributing to the broader global conversation on , dignity, and equal access to care.

🌍 In a world where so many voices go unheard, Afghanistan is still home to millions of families struggling to access food, education, healthcare, and safety. Behind every number is a child with dreams, a mother holding onto hope, and communities trying to rebuild with dignity. As we reflect on the blessed Day of Arafat — a day of mercy, reflection, and giving — it is also a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to those in need. This is a moment when generosity carries even deeper meaning, especially for those facing , , and .

In Afghanistan, many street children, women, and families continue to face severe food insecurity and lack of basic support. Your help can make a real difference. This campaign is more than a donation — it is a reminder that has no borders. Every contribution, no matter the size, can help provide warmth, support, and to people who need it most.

Together, we can turn into action and hope into something real.

🌍 World Football Day ⚽
In every corner of the world, football begins the same way—a simple ball, a shared space, and a moment where everything else fades away. But for many children in Afghanistan, childhood is interrupted too early. Instead of playing freely, many are pushed into work, and countless girls grow up without ever stepping into a classroom.

Still, even in the most difficult conditions, play has the power to reopen what was once closed.

Through structured football activities combined with learning support and essential care, children are given something many have been denied: a safe space to simply be children again. On World Football Day, we celebrate more than the game—we recognize its power to restore childhood itself.

In a small village on the outskirts of Afghanistan, Fatima held her pregnant daughter’s hand tightly as they traveled from one hospital to another, desperate for help. Her daughter, Mariam, had been in labor for hours, exhausted and in pain. At the first hospital, they were told there was no space. At the second, there were no staff available to assist her safely. With every passing hour, Fatima feared she would lose both her daughter and the unborn child. As night fell, a neighbor told them about Action for Development and the maternity services available through Shaheed Abdulrazaq Clinic. With nowhere else to turn, they made the difficult journey there.

The moment they arrived, everything changed.

The midwife on duty welcomed Mariam with kindness and urgency. She reassured the frightened mother and daughter, checked Mariam carefully, and stayed by her side throughout the delivery. Hours later, the cries of a healthy baby girl filled the room. Today, both Mariam and her newborn daughter are healthy and safe. With tears in her eyes, Fatima says, “I thought I would lose my child. No hospital accepted us. But here, they treated my daughter with dignity and care. The midwife saved both my daughter and my granddaughter. I will never forget her kindness.”

For thousands of women across Afghanistan, this story is painfully familiar. Years of , , and collapsing health systems have left many mothers without access to even the most basic maternal . Women in remote communities often face dangerous pregnancies alone, unable to reach hospitals or afford treatment. Too many mothers and babies lose their lives from preventable complications. In this critical situation, Action for Development is helping bridge the gap by supporting maternal health services through facilities like Shaheed Abdulrazaq Clinic, including delivery and home-based care for vulnerable women who otherwise would have nowhere to go.

Every safe delivery means a mother survives.
Every healthy newborn means a family keeps hope alive.
