Voici Elvis, 14 ans, vice-président du club de santé de son école dans le comté de Kisumu, au Kenya.

Plus de 75 % des victimes du paludisme dans la région sont des enfants de moins de 5 ans. La prévention, l’intervention en amont et les initiatives communautaires revêtent donc une importance capitale.

Avec des saynètes, des poèmes et des chansons, Elvis et ses collègues transmettent des messages qui trouvent un écho auprès de leurs camarades. Ils se réunissent également pour drainer l’eau stagnante à proximité de l’école et couper les herbes hautes, afin d’éliminer des sites de reproduction des moustiques.

En dépit des difficultés liées aux conditions météorologiques extrêmes, au manque de financement et à l’apparition de moustiques dans de nouvelles régions, ces jeunes leaders restent déterminés à bâtir un et plus sûr pour toutes et tous, libéré du paludisme.

Bonne nouvelle – une percée majeure dans la lutte contre la tuberculose, la maladie infectieuse la plus meurtrière au monde. Aujourd’hui, 13 pays s’apprêtent à déployer une nouvelle génération de tests de diagnostic moléculaire de la tuberculose à proximité du lieu de soins, qui permettra d’effectuer un diagnostic rapide et précis directement dans les établissements de soins primaires et les communautés isolées.

Financée par la Children's Investment Fund Foundation et mise en œuvre sur le terrain par l’Aurum Institute, l’initiative d’adoption anticipée pilotée par The Global Fund livrera près de 3 millions de tests de la tuberculose en Afrique du Sud, au Bangladesh, au Bénin, au Cameron, en Éthiopie, en Indonésie, au Kenya, au Nigéria, en Ouganda, au Pérou, aux Philippines, au Viet Nam et en Zambie.

Ces tests de petite taille, légers et faciles à utiliser fournissent des résultats en moins d’une heure et peuvent contribuer à réduire les coûts liés au dépistage, à améliorer l’équité et à élargir l’accès au diagnostic rapide pour les personnes ayant des difficultés à fournir des échantillons d’expectorations, notamment les personnes vivant avec le VIH.

Great news: A major step forward in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), the world’s deadliest infectious disease. Today, thirteen countries are preparing to roll out a new generation of near-point-of-care (NPOC) molecular diagnostic tests for TB, bringing fast, accurate diagnosis directly to primary care facilities and remote communities.

With support from Children's Investment Fund Foundation and implemented on-the-ground by the Aurum Institute, this Early Adopter initiative driven by The Global Fund will deliver nearly 3 million NPOC TB tests across Bangladesh, Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Uganda, Viet Nam and Zambia.

These small, lightweight, simple-to-use NPOC tests deliver results in under an hour and can help reduce case-finding costs, increase equity and expand access to rapid diagnosis for people who struggle to produce sputum, including people living with HIV.

Meet 14-year-old Elvis, deputy chair of his school’s Health Club in Kisumu County, Kenya.

With children under 5 accounting for more than 75% of malaria deaths in the region, prevention, early action and community-led efforts against the disease are critical.

Through skits, poems and songs, Elvis and other Health Club members share messages that resonate with their peers. They also come together to drain the stagnant water around the school and cut the long grass to help reduce mosquito breeding sites.

Despite the challenges posed by extreme weather, funding gaps and mosquitoes in new areas, these young leaders remain determined to build a safer and for all, free from malaria.

Even under relentless missile and drone attacks in Kharkiv, health workers continue the vital but often unseen work of detecting and treating tuberculosis (TB) – helping protect millions from the world’s deadliest infectious disease.

Without treatment, a single person with TB can infect up to 15 others in a year. Every diagnosis and every person started on treatment prevents further transmission, helping to contain outbreaks before they spread.

With support from The Global Fund and partners, Ukraine has maintained its TB diagnostic capacity through a nationwide network of 224 laboratories equipped with modern diagnostic technologies – ensuring the people most affected by the war are diagnosed for TB and rapidly put on treatment.

Trop souvent, la stigmatisation, la discrimination et d’autres obstacles empêchent les personnes les plus exposées au VIH d’accéder à des services de prévention, de dépistage et de traitement.

Nous ne pourrons mettre fin au VIH comme menace pour la santé publique que si toutes les personnes, partout, ont accès aux soins vitaux dont elles ont besoin.

Too often, stigma and discrimination and other barriers prevent people most at risk for HIV from accessing prevention, testing and treatment services.

We can only end HIV as a public health threat if everyone, everywhere, can access the lifesaving health care they need.

Congratulations to South Africa on the launch of lenacapavir, the twice-yearly injectable PrEP – a historic step forward in the fight to prevent HIV and a powerful example of what is possible when scientific innovation, political leadership and community action come together.

For the first time, a major HIV prevention innovation is being rolled out in low- and middle-income countries at the same time as in high-income countries – an important milestone for health equity.

South Africa is helping shape the future of HIV prevention by showing how breakthrough innovations can be rapidly translated into impact for the communities most affected by HIV.

The scale and speed of this rollout reflect decades of leadership by communities, activists, health workers and public institutions – and a clear commitment to reducing new infections faster and bringing the end of HIV as a public health threat within reach.
