Our hearts are heavy as we the loss of Sgt. Brett Carleton of the Barrie Police Service.

The policing community has endured far too much loss in recent times, and each tragedy is a painful reminder of the risks our members face and the lasting impact those losses have on families, colleagues, and communities.

Today, we stand alongside the Carleton family and our brothers and sisters at the Barrie Police Service. While words can never ease the weight of this loss, please know that you are not facing it alone. Our thoughts, sympathy, and unwavering support are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

May Sgt. Carleton’s years of service and the lives he touched be remembered with pride and gratitude.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of one of our own. The Barrie Police Service is mourning the death of Sgt. Brett Carleton.
Sgt. Carleton was a highly respected police officer whose commitment to his work touched many families during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
He will forever be remembered as a valued member of the Service.

As we learn of another tragedy in our policing family the WPA extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the RCMP officer who has died.

With recent tragedies involving members of the RCMP, Durham Regional Police Service and Hamilton Police Service, this has been an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time for all of us.

These losses are a reminder that, regardless of the uniform we wear or the service we represent, we are one policing family. During times like these, we stand together, support one another and make sure our colleagues know they are not alone.

Please take the time to check in on your fellow members, your loved ones and yourself. Lean on one another, reach out when you need support, and offer a listening ear to those around you.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these tragic losses.

The OPPA has confirmed with our NPF brothers and sisters that one of their RCMP members has tragically died.

This is three police officers in Canada in three days we have lost.

The thoughts of our OPPA membership are with the families, friends and colleagues of the Hamilton, Durham, and RCMP officers. Our deepest condolences to all of you.

The Windsor Police Association extends our deepest condolences to the Durham Regional Police Association, the Durham Regional Police Service, and the family, friends and colleagues of their member following this heartbreaking loss.

In such a short time, our policing community has been faced with the loss of two of our own. These moments remind us of the strength of the bonds we share as a policing family and the importance of standing together when our colleagues need us most.

The Windsor Police Association joins the policing community in mourning the tragic loss of Constable in Training Tyrone Magbitang of the Durham Regional Police Service.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Tyrone’s family, friends, colleagues, and all members of the Durham Regional Police Service during this unimaginable time of loss.

Tyrone’s dedication to a life of service, his commitment to helping others, and his dream of becoming a police officer are a testament to the kind of person he was. Although his time in policing was far too short, the impact he made will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

We stand beside our fellow members in Durham and across Ontario as we honour Tyrone’s memory and support those grieving this heartbreaking loss.

Rest in peace, Tyrone. Your commitment to service will never be forgotten.

The Durham Regional Police Service is profoundly saddened by the tragic death of Constable in Training (CIT) Tyrone Magbitang, 27, who was involved in a motor vehicle collision while travelling to the Ontario Police College on July 7, 2026.

CIT Magbitang joined the Durham Regional Police Service as a Special Constable in May 2023. In April of this year, he took the next step toward achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer when he was selected as a police constable recruit.

Tyrone was a compassionate, dedicated, and service-driven individual who believed deeply in helping others and making a positive difference in the community. Following his Police Foundations education, he pursued a career in public safety with determination, humility, and an unwavering commitment to serving those around him.

Although his time with our Service was far too short, Tyrone made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. He will be remembered for his kindness, professionalism, and the tremendous potential he brought to our organization. His loss is deeply felt throughout the Durham Regional Police Service and the wider policing community.

Today, CIT Magbitang will be transported from London, Ontario, to the Centre for Forensic Sciences (CFS) in Toronto. Loved ones and members of the Durham Regional Police Service will accompany him as a mark of respect and in recognition of his service and commitment to the profession he aspired to join.

On behalf of the Durham Regional Police Service, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Tyrone’s family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. We mourn alongside them and remain committed to supporting all those affected by this unimaginable loss.

We respectfully ask that the privacy of Tyrone’s family and those mourning his loss be honoured during this difficult time.

The policing community is mourning the recent loss of five officers in the line of duty across Canada. In these difficult times, it’s essential that we support one another and remember that wellness resources and peer networks are always available.

The Windsor Police Association (WPA) was proud to present Survivors of Law Enforcement (SOLE) with a cheque for over $7,500, raised during WPA’s social night at the PAO’s Annual Meeting & Convention in May.

SOLE provides vital support to the spouses, families and loved ones of officers killed in the line of duty, work that is especially meaningful in times like these.

Thank you to all member associations and supporters for your generosity. Your contributions help ensure SOLE can continue supporting those facing unimaginable loss.
