Thank you everyone for your interest! I am currently going through many many applications for Niko!
Niko has officially finished his rehab! Niko is a 3-4 year old greencheek conure who has sass galore! He loves to dance, talk, and be around people. Niko has been socialized with other birds and does not show aggression but will peck if an unknown bird gets too close (man has boundaries, we respect that) but has never gone to chase or harm another bird even when they were being mean to him first. Niko has been around my calm dog, but will fly to dogs which makes me believe at some point he lived with them, this can be hazardous so I ask that he only go to homes with well socialized dogs to prevent accidents or that he be kept separately. Niko would do best in a home where someone is home a lot as he loves to ride on your shoulder and just be a part of whatever it is you are doing. He would be ok with children in the home but he can get overstimulated and nip (but he has never bitten me with intent) but I believe he would be an amazing first bird for just about anyone, children 12 and up included!
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, his chest! Niko has what we call barbering issues, this means that he will sometimes chew portions of his feathers. Before he came to me he had a little bit of it so this behaviour has been ongoing for a while, he will do it if there are big changes around him and I do believe it’s partially hormonal right now and so he has been given teas to hopefully help relax him.
Niko seems to have no preference in male or female people but does take a few days to warm up, but once he does he will fly to you, preen you and loves to snuggle. Overall he is what I refer as a level one bird.
