We had the opportunity to meet with Ocean Bottom, and truly…some of the kindest souls 🤍

They’ve supported us in so many ways..through generous monetary donations in the past, and now by continuing to give with items like their handmade soaps and lip balms. But more than that, it’s who they are.

Anytime we need something, we can text them and they’re just there..ready to help, no questions asked. That kind of support means more than we can put into words.

We appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for standing beside us and helping us care for our community the way we do.

With so much gratitude,

The Soup Shack 🙏🏻 Ocean Bottom Soap Company

A Reminder of Why We Show Up

Last year, a woman in our community experienced six months of homelessness in Windsor.

Recently, she shared this publicly:

“As someone who was homeless for six months in Windsor last year, I relied on The Soup Shack to get a hot meal for dinner every evening for months. I got quality clothes from their clothing and shoe donations when I had nothing, personal items and a coat, a purse. They helped me feel like a person again during the most dehumanizing experience of my life… and I am so extremely grateful to everyone there. It’s volunteer run, open 7 days a week… if you’re looking for a good cause, this is a phenomenal one! Hope to see you there”

This is why we do what we do.

Because sometimes the smallest things become the most steady things in someone’s life.

Because when everything feels unstable, showing up matters.

Because in moments where someone feels invisible, being seen changes something.

The Soup Shack has always been about people…volunteers who give their evenings, donors who give quietly, and guests who trust us enough to come back the next day.

There are stories we don’t always hear.

And then sometimes, one comes back to remind us that what feels routine to us might have meant survival to someone else.

That reminder is everything.🥰🙏🏻

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Today is a reminder that human trafficking is real..and it happens in cities, small towns, and communities across Canada.

While it can affect anyone, traffickers often target vulnerability. Youth.Individuals facing poverty or housing instability. People experiencing trauma, addiction, isolation, or lack of support. Sometimes it begins with manipulation, false promises, emotional control, or someone offering what feels like safety or opportunity.

Exploitation doesn’t always look obvious. It can be subtle. It can look like control. Fear. Isolation. Someone speaking for another person. Sudden changes in behavior. Restricted communication.

That’s why awareness matters.

Here are a few ways you can help:

• Learn the signs of human trafficking and exploitation
• Talk to youth and vulnerable individuals about online safety and grooming
• Be observant of your surroundings
• Support local outreach and community organizations
•Have conversations without judgment
• Trust your instincts if something doesn’t feel right

Human trafficking thrives in secrecy. Community awareness makes it harder to hide.

If you suspect someone may be in danger in Canada, you can contact the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010.
It is confidential and available 24/7 in multiple languages.

Today, we stand for education, vigilance, and the protection of every person in our community.

This photo captures something simple..and something powerful.

A warm plate of food in front of someone who just needed to sit and eat in peace.

At Soup Shack, it’s never “just food.”

It’s dignity.
It’s consistency.
It’s knowing that no matter what the day looked like, there will be a place to sit… and a meal waiting.

So many of the people we serve carry more than we’ll ever fully see. Stress. Loss. Uncertainty. Exhaustion. And in the middle of all that, a simple act…a hot meal and a welcoming space…can mean more than words ever could.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer isn’t advice or answers.

It’s reliability.
It’s showing up.
It’s staying.

Thank you to every volunteer who cooks, serves, cleans, and gives their time. Thank you to every donor who makes this possible. Because of you, this isn’t just a meal.

It’s a moment of care.
It’s a reminder they’re not invisible.
It’s community in action. 🙏🏻
