James Bay Community Project James Bay Community Project (JBCP) is a community organization with a long history of actively serving James Bay and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

James Bay Community Project is a non-profit community organization helping seniors, youth and families by providing a variety of programs, community support and volunteer services. We operate as a non-profit, charitable society, with a volunteer board of directors. We offer community and volunteer services for families, youth and seniors. We live and work on the traditional lands of the L'kwungen speaking peoples of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.

Our fall fundraising campaign launches October 26, and thanks to three early Campaign Champions, we already have $3,500 committed to get us off to a strong start!

Thank you to Rory McAlpine, Paul and Barbara Best, and Tall Tree Health for your generous support. Your gifts help JBCP connect families, youth and seniors with people, programs and practical support in our community.

We look forward to sharing more when the campaign launches. In the meantime, we’d love to celebrate with you!

Volunteer with our Family Centre!

We’re looking for two volunteers: one for Wednesdays and one for Fridays. Consistent availability from 9:30–11:00 am each week would be greatly appreciated.

Prepare simple cheese and fruit snacks for kids, help clean up, chat with families and young children, and lend a hand to staff, all in our warm, cozy environment.

Today, October 1, we mark National Seniors Day in Canada and the United Nations’ International Day of Older Persons.

Supporting local seniors is at the heart of our work at JBCP and CCV. Every day, we’re grateful for their wisdom, life experience, and all they have contributed to other generations.

Our goal is to help seniors stay involved, pursue opportunities, and experience a sense of well-being, aging with dignity and thriving, not just coping. Seeing our programs and services make a difference (and smiles on people’s faces!) fills us with enormous joy.

As a small gesture of our appreciation and affection for older adults in our community, our Community Closet thrift store is offering:
– 20% off all purchases for customers aged 55 and over.
– A free scarf (a $6 value) for all customers with any purchase over $30.

Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Reconciliation involves rebuilding relationships and trust. It asks us to keep learning: to understand the history we may not have been taught, hear perspectives beyond our own, and notice when our assumptions prevent us from seeing others clearly.

Here in sxʷeŋxʷəŋ təŋəxʷ, the lək̓ʷəŋən name for the area now known as James Bay, we think about what this means for our own work. At JBCP, we want people to feel that they belong and matter, that they have others around them, and that they don’t have to figure everything out alone. We want children to grow up with opportunities to learn, be curious, and form connections beyond their own families.

Our work is one small part of building a community where people are treated with dignity and look out for one another. This day gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we can keep doing that with care.

Our Community Closet sale continues! Buy two items and get a third of equal or lesser value FREE through Tuesday, September 29.

Stop in to browse our great selection of fall clothing and summer clearance items — all summer clearance is priced under $10! We put out new-to-you stock daily, so there’s always something to discover.

Fall is officially here, and the busy season is in full swing, which means we need a few extra helping hands.

We’re looking for:
- Volunteer drivers to help our senior participants get to their medical appointments, offering safe rides with kindness, patience, and respect.
- Community Closet volunteers to lend a hand at our thrift store.

Calling all little firefighters and other afternoon adventurers!

Did you know we also have a free afternoon playgroup at our Family Resource Centre?

As many of our older children move on to preschool or daycare, we’d love to welcome some new faces. Whether your child is ready for an imaginary rescue mission or prefers playdough, painting, puzzles, toys, books or outdoor play, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy together.

Tuesdays, 2:30–4:30 pm, unless otherwise noted. For families with children up to 5 years.
