Neighbourhood Solidarity with Unhoused Neighbours participated in two events in December 2025 on 'block'. One was the 'hot soup' event on Friday, December 19, 2025, organized by Peer2Peer Indigenous Society . The other was the Longest Night Event mostly organized by the Housing Justice Project (https://www.ahomeforall.ca/) with an able assist from The Existence Project.

Looking to make a donation of your time to help your unhoused neighbours this holiday season? NSUN is collaborating with QomQem on Sunday night outreach prep and also hopes to support Peer2Peer Indigenous Society on their upcoming 'hot soup' events.

And if money is more your jam (or baloney and cheese :-) ) you can do that too - go to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/6848 and select Option 5 - Supporting unhoused people in the community in the 'Fund' box on the form.

NSUN is up to a few things this winter and we invite you to consider whether you’d like to be involved. If any of these are of interest you can go to our contact form and get in touch or send…

Can you help Threshold Housing?

Help us turn empty apartments into homes 🏡

We have lots of exciting moves happening at Threshold this month! To get these places all ready for our young people to move in, we need some furniture — mattresses, bedframes, TVs, microwaves, and couches. Have something you want to get rid of? Let us know!

Super interesting post documenting a visit by healthcare workers from Iceland (including my classmate Kristin Davidsdottir) to London to see how homelessness is being addressed there.

I think we can see how this problem is universal and hopefully demonstrates that it is the underlying systems that are largely responsible with individual 'failings' playing a minor part.

As usual the wonderful Jean Swanson hits the nail on the head in her open letter to Gregor Robertson who was previously the Mayor of Vancouver (2008-2018 ) and is now the Federal Housing Minister. Part of the letter below and the rest in the Georgia Straight at the archive.ph link.

"Giving private developers low-cost loans to build expensive rental housing won't help folks who are homeless. Making home ownership cheaper won't help either. Even most new social housing excludes low-income people nowadays. We need thousands of units of dignified non-market housing that rents at about $500 a month, which is all that folks on welfare, disability, basic pensions and part-time wages can afford. And we need shelters and tiny home villages in the meantime while that housing is getting built."

It's kind of old news but Neighbourhood Solidarity with Unhoused Neighbours volunteers were so honoured to be recognized at QomQem Coastal's seafood feast back in June. We're looking forward to resuming Sunday night outreach prep in the fall - it's really fun and has tasks that suit every skill level 🙂.
