Sometimes it's a LEGO creation. Sometimes it's a piece of music, a story, a pet or an idea they're excited about. And sometimes, it's the confidence that comes from being truly seen and heard.

That's the inspiration behind Spotlight, a new HomeLearners Network offering that gives learners a dedicated space to share their passions, connect with peers and build confidence in a supportive environment.

HomeLearners Network (HLN), a program of SelfDesign Learning Foundation, is hiring certified online educators to create and facilitate engaging virtual activities for K–7 learners across BC.

This isn’t traditional classroom teaching. HLN activities are designed to spark curiosity, creativity and connection through hands-on, interest-based learning. Think coding, robotics, entrepreneurship, social studies, graphic design, literacy, STEAM and more. ✨

We’re especially looking for educators with experience in:
• Primary education (K–2)
• STEAM and coding
• Social studies
• Languages
• Applied design, skills & technology

"If my son wants to learn a program in Python, there's nobody there saying no," says Christina Hagemann, a SelfDesign parent. "My daughter wants to learn how to multiply fractions, she can do that. She doesn't have to wait to be in the right grade."

That's what it's like to be a SelfDesign learner. Your child doesn't have to wait for permission to explore what interests them. They never have to put their curiosity on hold until the curriculum catches up. 🧐🤸‍♀️

"It's delightful to actually feel each other's energy." 💙

For an organization that works primarily online, there's something powerful about gathering our contractors in person. That's what Collab is all about.

Since the first Collaboratory in 2006, connection, community and learning have been the defining qualities of our in-person gatherings. The enthusiasm our dedicated contractors feel when they get to be together is palpable.

Working remotely creates connections, but meeting face-to-face changes the dynamic. Moments like informal connecting, conversations on grassy hills and walks between sessions strengthen the fibre of our community.

In June 2025, we gathered in Kelowna for our first Collab in nearly a decade. This June, we're doing it again! 💪
