Maybe it’s expired, or you’ve had your fill of the wilderness, or are travelling back to your home country and want to dispose of it. Whatever the reason, don’t throw bear spray cannisters in the trash - bring them to us!

We collect and turn over bear spray to VPD for disposal. Sold as personal safety devices, also know that pepper spray, mace, and tear gas are illegal to possess or use. If you have or find these products, drop them off and we'll transfer for disposal.

Abuse, neglect, and self-neglect of seniors and other vulnerable adults is often hidden from view. Older adults are safer when they're more visible, which is easier when streets and sidewalks feel safe and welcoming.

If you suspect a neighbour, friend, or relative needs safety, the best resource is your love and attention. That way, those at risk know they have someone they trust to turn to in a time of need.

Often, thieves and vandals don’t need a crowbar to access your building. They simply rely on a courteous tenant holding the door open. Help instil a culture of security by ensuring doors close and secure behind you as you enter and exit. Reducing unauthorized entry reduces chances of making your building a target.

We have front-adhesive “No Key, No Entry” stickers available to building managers/owners and strata reps that you can place next to entrance. Drop by to find out more and get yours!

Don't use your passport as ID! Replacing one lost or stolen is an expensive and time-consuming process.
Remember these tips:
⚠️ For photo ID, use your BC Services card or get a BC Identity Card.
⚠️ Don't use a passport for travel *within* Canada.
⚠️Abroad, keep your passport in a money belt, or a safe at your hotel.
⚠️Never give your passport to others for safekeeping.
⚠️Photocopy pages 2-3 (with photo and barcode), and keep separately, should it be lost or stolen abroad

During a one-hour 1:1 session, you’ll learn how to safely select, instal, and use seats appropriate to a child’s age and size; as well as other tips on keeping a child safe during vehicle travel.

A well-deserved accolade for the VPD's Crime Analyst for our district, Arezo Zarrabian. We offer our congratulations and thanks for her consistent commitment to excellence!

As a senior crime analyst with the Vancouver Police Department, Arezo Zarrabian brings dedication, insight, and care to her work, using data and research to strengthen crime prevention and response. Her work supports senior leadership in making informed decisions about priorities and resources.

As the analyst for Project Barcode, which focused on violent retail crime, Arezo delivered accurate, high-impact analysis under tight deadlines. She developed an innovative analytical framework to track the project’s results, which she later presented at an International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. She regularly represents the Department at community events and forums, clearly communicating complex crime data and public safety trends.

A respected mentor and collaborative leader, Arezo is widely sought for her expertise and guidance. She supports the Retail Crime Task Force by identifying prolific offenders and provides media-ready reports that consistently withstand scrutiny. Her analysis of street disorder and violent crime near a downtown overdose prevention site contributed to the City’s decision to relocate the facility.

Arezo supports demanding initiatives like Project Barcode, the Retail Crime Task Force and other urgent requests in addition to her role as the senior crime analyst in District 1, one of the busiest patrol districts in Vancouver.

For demonstrating a consistent high level of performance and dedication as a leader in crime analysis, Arezo Zarrabian was awarded the Chief Constable’s Commendation.

It's true! Cleaner, well-maintained neighbourhoods reduce incidences of vandalism and other crime. Our volunteers were in the neighbourhood on the weekend, pitching in to help keep our sidewalks clean.

Our bike patrollers were out at Stanley Park on the weekend, distributing brochures which can also be used as a dashboard sign advising potential thieves that anything of value has been removed from their vehicle. This included giving folks replacements! As always in the park, our volunteers also helped visitors with their questions.
