Last night, Elektra turned out in force to celebrate our extraordinary pianist, Stephen Smith, on his 60th birthday.

Stephen opened the evening by announcing, “I’ll be playing what I want to.” And so he did — giving a wonderfully personal birthday recital to a room packed with friends, colleagues and singers from across Vancouver’s choral community, with plenty of funny, candid commentary and stories along the way.

Afterward came champagne and cake, followed by a rousing and entirely inevitable impromptu chorus of Happy Birthday from singers representing Elektra, Vancouver Men’s Chorus, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Chor Leoni and Vancouver Bach Choir.

It was a wonderful way to celebrate a beloved Vancouver musician.

We love you, Stephen. Happy Birthday! ❤️🎹
