✖️ 🧬 IT IS NOT ABOUT HOW WELL YOU CAN “HOLD YOUR LIQUOR.”

Many young adult women are unaware that alcohol can affect their bodies differently than men.

It is about biology.

Women naturally have less body water to dilute alcohol and lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenase, an enzyme involved in breaking it down before it enters the bloodstream.

As a result, alcohol can reach higher concentrations in the body and may contribute to a greater risk of alcohol-related liver injury over time.

Understanding how alcohol affects the body is an important part of understanding liver health.

Your liver works silently to protect you every day.

🚨 WHAT IS ALCOHOL-ASSOCIATED LIVER DISEASE?

Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a spectrum of progressive liver conditions caused by prolonged, heavy alcohol consumption. It can range from fatty liver and inflammation to cirrhosis and liver failure.

One of the challenges with ALD is that liver damage may develop long before symptoms appear.

In some cases, people do not realize the extent of the damage until serious complications occur.

Understanding the condition, recognizing the risks, and knowing the warning signs may help support earlier conversations and earlier intervention.

🚨 METABOLIC DYSFUNCTION-ASSOCIATED STEATOTIC LIVER DISEASE (MASLD) is rising in young people.

Many people know MASLD as fatty liver disease. It is one of the most common forms of liver disease worldwide and is increasingly being identified in younger adults.

⚠️ THE HIDDEN RISK

What many people do not realize is that liver damage can develop without obvious signs or symptoms. A young person may be building fat in the liver, experiencing inflammation, or developing scarring without knowing it.

MASLD is closely linked to metabolic health and is frequently associated with conditions such as:

- Excess weight or obesity
- Type 2 diabetes
- High cholesterol or triglycerides
- Insulin resistance
- Metabolic syndrome

⏰ EARLY DETECTION MATTERS

Understanding your risk factors and speaking with your healthcare provider about appropriate testing can help identify liver disease before it progresses.

🌍 TODAY IS GLOBAL FATTY LIVER DAY.

🚨 1 IN 4 ADULTS GLOBALLY HAVE FATTY LIVER DISEASE.

Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), commonly known as fatty liver disease, is increasingly being recognized in young adults.

In Episode 2 of , hepatologist and clinician scientist Dr. Jennifer Flemming discusses how fatty liver disease exists on a spectrum and why these conversations matter.

Because liver disease can remain silent for years, awareness and early detection are critical.

Ways to help reduce your risk:

👉 Stay physically active
👉 Maintain a balanced diet rich in whole foods and fibre
👉 Understand your personal risk factors
👉 Manage conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
👉 Speak with your healthcare provider about liver health concerns

LIVER CONDITIONS DEVELOP SILENTLY.
SYMPTOMS SUCH AS:

- Fatigue
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
- Abdominal swelling (ascites)
- Dark urine
- Easy bruising
- Itchy skin

MAY BE ASSOCIATED WITH LIVER DISEASE.

Experiencing one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean you have liver disease. Many symptoms can have multiple causes.

If you are concerned about your liver health, speak with your healthcare provider.

THOSE WHO ARE DRINKING ARE DRINKING MORE.

The story depends on who you look at and how you ask the question.

While some people are choosing not to drink at all, researchers are also examining what is happening among those who continue to consume alcohol.

The findings may surprise you.

In Episode Two of the , hepatologist, clinician scientist, and researcher Dr. Jennifer Flemming discusses what the data may be telling us about alcohol consumption trends.

🚀 PHASE ONE OF OUR RESOURCE LIBRARY IS NOW LIVE.

One year ago, we launched the Liver Awareness Foundation to address a massive gap in liver health education.

This foundation was born from a life-changing diagnosis, the uncertainty that followed, and a determination to ensure others have access to the information we could not find when it mattered most. It was also born from the kind of questions people ask when their world changes overnight, and the realization that clear answers are often nowhere to be found.

Today, we are taking the next step.

💜 We are proud to launch Phase One of our Resource Library: a growing collection of educational resources designed to make liver health information accessible, clear, engaging, and easier to understand.

Too many young adults are left searching for answers after abnormal blood work, unexplained symptoms, or a diagnosis they never saw coming. Too often, liver health information becomes accessible only after a crisis.

💪 Available now in Phase One:

- Educational resources covering Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease (ALD), Cirrhosis, and MASLD
- Visually engaging infographics, dietary frameworks, diagnostic guides, and liver health tools
- Content aligned with international hepatology guidance and public health best practices

This is only the beginning. New resources will continue to be added throughout the summer and fall as we expand our educational library.

Liver health information should be accessible in real life. Grounded in medical expertise, we meet people where they are.

We believe people deserve access to liver health information before something goes wrong, not after.
