Thank you for visiting our young patients at SHN’s Centenary Hospital, bringing smiles, basketballs and plenty of team spirit!

The visit also highlighted an exciting new partnership between the team and SHN Foundation. For every online ticket sold during the 2026 season, $1 will be donated back to Scarborough hospitals, helping support local healthcare.

SHN is one of two places in all of Canada where paediatric sub-specialists will look after paediatric orthopaedic problems outside of a children’s hospital. Meaning shorter wait times and more accessible care to children and families in the Scarborough community.

“I think it’s a tremendous initiative that the Shooting Stars and SHN have collaborated together. The Shooting Stars are certainly an organization that our Scarborough community is proud of.” — Dr. Ryan Katchky, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, SHN

The first game of season starts this Saturday so get your tickets, cheer on Scarborough’s team, and help support local healthcare one basket at a time! 🏀

This Asian Heritage Month, we’re celebrating physicians like Dr. Victor Lo, a Scarborough-raised Medical Oncologist who returned home to care for the community that raised him. ❤️

“I believe people deserve good healthcare regardless of the provider or patient’s ethnicity,” says Dr. Lo. “That being said, for many of my patients, particularly those who speak Cantonese only, they find comfort in having a physician who is able to speak their language and understand their culture and attitudes towards healthcare.”

At SHN, Dr. Lo helps patients navigate complex cancer journeys with compassion, trust, and culturally sensitive care.

“It gives me joy and fulfilment to know that patients who do not speak English well or at all are able to voice their concerns in a way that they are truly heard.”

At SHN, care is delivered in 20+ languages so patients can feel understood, supported, and cared for close to home.

Drake’s Iceman “National Treasures” visuals were filmed at UTSC… anything look familiar? 👀🧊

Dr. Christopher Yarnell’s Love, Scarborough portrait was shot in the exact same space!

But while Drake was making hits, as a Physician in Critical Care Medicine Dr. Yarnell was focused on something else entirely — improving care for ICU patients at SHN and making sure Scarborough is represented in the research shaping healthcare around the world.
