Canada is entering a defining period of business succession. 🇨🇦

On October 17 in Calgary, Canada’s Succession Summit will bring together business leaders, advisors, investors, capital providers and policymakers for the first gathering of its kind in Canada.

The Summit is designed to move the conversation forward. Participants will bring perspectives from across the succession ecosystem, examine the barriers affecting business transitions and work together to develop recommendations that can help shape Canada’s ETA landscape.

If you have experience, perspective or a stake in the future of Canadian business ownership, we want your voice in the room. Your participation can help inform what Canada needs to support the next generation of owners and strengthen our economic resilience, competitiveness and sovereignty.

Entrepreneurs build more than businesses. They build what comes next. 🇨🇦

This Entrepreneurs’ Day, we’re celebrating the people who see possibilities, take action, learn through uncertainty and create opportunities for others.

At Venture for Canada, we’re fortunate to see that entrepreneurial mindset across our community every day — from alumni turned founders like Christian Alphonse of Watt Share Inc. and Shivani Chotalia of the CleanAI Initiative, to entrepreneurs and leaders like Nadia Ladak from marlow, Qasim Virjee from StartWell , Roy Itzhaki BizDev Labs , Jay Reid from The Making-Box and many more who share their experience with the next generation, employer partners like Emoot who create opportunities to learn by doing, and Scott Stirrett | Author & Founder , whose own entrepreneurial vision led to the founding of Venture for Canada.

In a new note, our CEO Steven Wang reflects on why creating more pathways for Canadians to develop an entrepreneurial mindset matters — and the community helping make it possible.

Here’s to everyone building, mentoring, experimenting and opening doors for others. Happy Entrepreneurs’ Day! 🚀🇨🇦

There’s a major shift happening in Canadian business ownership.

Thousands of business owners are preparing to exit, with more than $2 trillion in business assets potentially changing hands over the coming years.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, that creates a different path to ownership: buying and growing an existing business.

Entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA) gives you the opportunity to step into a business with existing customers, operations, employees, and revenue. But identifying the right opportunity—and knowing how to evaluate, finance, acquire, and eventually lead it—requires preparation.

That’s exactly what we explore through Venture for Canada’s ETA Bootcamp.

If business ownership is part of your future, you may not need to start from zero.

Canada is entering a major period of business succession, creating an opportunity for the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Thousands of established businesses will need new owners as their current owners prepare to exit. For aspiring entrepreneurs, that creates another path to business ownership: buying and building on an existing business.

Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) allows future owner-operators to step into businesses with existing customers, operations, employees and revenue. But recognizing the opportunity is only the beginning. Future buyers need to know how to search for the right business, evaluate opportunities, understand financing, navigate an acquisition and prepare to lead once the deal closes.

📍 ETA Bootcamp is coming to Toronto. Limited seat are available to enrol in our last cohort this year. Start preparing for business acquisition this year.

Kinda chic to choose the path that isn’t obvious.

Buying an existing business isn’t the traditional route to entrepreneurship—but for many people, it might be the smarter one.

If you’ve ever thought about business ownership, maybe it’s time to look beyond starting from scratch.

Because sometimes the chicest move is taking a calculated risk.
