Housing and mental health are deeply connected. Addressing one means understanding the other.
October 10 marks both World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day, two important occasions that highlight the connection between housing stability and mental well-being.
Mental health challenges can contribute to housing instability, while experiencing homelessness can take a significant toll on mental health. Without stable housing and access to appropriate supports, it can be difficult for people to focus on their health, well-being and future.
That's why housing and mental health must be addressed together, with support that recognizes each person's unique needs.
At Fred Victor, we see this connection every day. Through our housing and shelter programs, mental health services and community-based supports, we work alongside people experiencing homelessness to help them find stability, strengthen their well-being and build a path forward.
On World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to a Toronto where everyone has a place to call home and access to the support they need to thrive.
Because housing is fundamental to health, dignity and belonging.
