The Jean Tweed Centre responds to calls for action on homelessness, mental health and addictions in Ontario.

As conversations continue across Ontario about homelessness, mental health, substance use and involuntary treatment, we are adding our voice to an important and complex discussion.

At the Jean Tweed Centre, we see every day how these challenges intersect with trauma, gender-based violence, housing instability and poverty in the lives of women and their families.

As Ontario considers the path forward, we believe one question must remain at the centre of the conversation:

What about the people who are already asking for help and cannot get it?

When a woman asks for help, she should not have to wait until she reaches crisis to receive it.

Because when we support a woman, we are often supporting a family.

August 12, 2026 - International Youth Day💜

Every young person deserves the opportunity to grow, heal, and build a future where they feel safe, supported, and empowered.

At the Jean Tweed Centre, we understand that supporting women and families also means supporting the next generation. Through trauma-informed, gender-responsive care, we work alongside women, children, youth, and families to create pathways toward healing, wellness, and lasting change.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and potential of young people—and recognize the importance of creating communities where every young person has the support they need to thrive.

When we support youth, we help build healthier, stronger communities for generations to come. 💜

Preventing overdose requires more than responding to substance use alone.

For many women, substance use intersects with trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health challenges, housing instability, poverty, human trafficking, intergenerational trauma, and related challenges. One rarely occurs in isolation from another—and each can intensify the others.

Meaningful healing requires care that responds to the whole person and addresses all aspects of her experience together.
Women, particularly mothers, can also face stigma, caregiving barriers, and fear of judgment or family separation when seeking support. That’s why gender-responsive, trauma- and violence-informed care is so important.

Across seven locations and 34 programs, the Jean Tweed Centre supports women, children, and families impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, trauma, violence, housing instability, and related challenges. In the past year, our work has impacted more than 20,000 lives.

This Overdose Awareness Month, let’s replace judgment with compassion, deepen our understanding, and ensure every woman and child has an open door to hope. 💜
