Six years ago, VOBG’s founders set out to raise awareness about the Bosnian genocide. The founders felt a responsibility to build a platform to help people learn about the genocide. As we built on our expansive outreach, our constituents began asking us to expand our research so that it could include content relating to the nationality, culture, religious diversity, as well as the identity and heritage of the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Over the last two years, we have expanded into those areas and are ready to grow our platform concurrently. To ensure that our mission is able to cover such broad scope, we began transitioning VOBG into BAI. Continuing with genocide awareness as a core pillar, we expanded our scope to include culture, education and outreach as additional pillars under BAI. BAI is structured in an organizational hierarchy that enables us to comply with federal and state laws while providing the means to maintain focus on the core pillars that define our mission and goals. Central to the organization is the Board of Directors (BoD), who are accountable for the operation and status of the entire organization, its legal, fiscal and operational commitments. The BoD is accountable to a Board of Trustees, that provide oversight on BoD activities. The Trustees also help set strategic direction, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. In addition to the Trustees, there are Chairs from each pillar who report directly to the BoD: Genocide Awareness, Culture, Education, and Outreach. Our Outreach pillar calls out a very specific initiative for Youth Outreach that is led by the youngest members of the organization. Spanning across all the pillars is the Technology and Innovation initiative, to ensure that our message and reach are optimized through the use of leading-edge technology and innovation.
