Happy Pride Month! 🌈💚

At Dorothy Ley Hospice, we are proud to be a Positive Space that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We believe everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and supported, and to receive compassionate care that honours who they are. As a Positive Space, we uphold the human and equal rights of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and stand alongside their families, friends, and allies.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and reaffirm our commitment to providing inclusive, person-centred care for all.

For resources supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals in accessing inclusive and respectful care, visit Canadian Virtual Hospice resource hub: https://www.virtualhospice.ca/2SLGBTQ (link in bio).

Wishing our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities a joyful and empowering Pride Month.

👟Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Jack Cooper Hike for Hospice in support of Dorothy Ley Hospice!

It was truly heartwarming to see so many people come together, walking side by side, sharing stories, remembering loved ones, and supporting compassionate hospice care in our community 💚.

There was such a wonderful energy throughout the day, and we hope everyone who attended felt a sense of connection, community, and meaning in being part of the Hike.

To our sponsors, in-kind donors, community members, and more than 40 incredible volunteers — thank you. Your generosity, kindness, and support helped make this special day possible, and we are so grateful.

Together, we've raised over $210,000 to help ensure Dorothy Ley Hospice can continue to walk alongside individuals and families when they need it most.

Our Hike fundraising page will remain open until June 19 for anyone who would still like to contribute: https://dorothyleyhospice.akaraisin.com/ui/Hike2026

📅And finally, save the date! We hope you’ll join us next year as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Hike for Hospice on Sunday, May 30, 2027.

As we recognize National Nursing Week and this year’s theme, ‘The Power of Nurses to Transform Health,’ we want to extend heartfelt thanks to nurses across all areas of health care for the incredible work they do each day to care for and support people in our communities.

We are especially grateful for the nurses at Dorothy Ley Hospice, whose compassion, expertise, and dedication make such a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Below is a special message from our Dipti Purbhoo, Executive Director, in recognition of National Nursing Week:

“To all the Nurses across the hospice, I want to personally thank you for the care, kindness, and support you provide to individuals and families every day.

To our nurses and PSWs in the care team, thank you for the important work you do during some of life’s most difficult moments, bringing comfort, dignity, and peace to so many people. Your dedication and compassion truly make a difference.

To our nurses in admissions, the Palliative Clinic, on our community team and our Palliative Clinical Coaches, and the Pain and Symptom Management team, thank you for your leadership, expertise, and commitment to ensuring that clients, families, and our provider partners feel supported throughout their journey. Your work is deeply valued and sincerely appreciated.

Wishing you all a wonderful National Nursing Week, and thank you for all that you do!” 💚💚

Can’t join us in person on May 24? You can still take part in our Jack Cooper Hike for Hospice as a virtual participant. 💚

Register as a virtual participant today and take part from wherever you are. Walk your neighbourhood, hike a trail, gather friends and family, or choose a meaningful activity in honour or memory of someone special.

This year, one of our dedicated hospice volunteers, Alice, is participating virtually because she can’t attend the event in person.

Every contribution helps provide compassionate hospice palliative care and grief support to individuals and families in our community.

Join us your way. Register at https://dorothyleyhospice.akaraisin.com/ui/Hike2026

Testimonial:

“When I saw that this year there was an option to participate virtually and still raise funds, I jumped at the opportunity.

I have been a volunteer for the past two years and have never been able to participate in the Hike before, as it falls on a weekend when my out-of-country family visits and we celebrate my grandson's birthday.

I know firsthand the great work being done at the hospice and in the community, and how each dollar raised is well spent. Whether we are present on the day of, or walking another day, participating is a great way to support a great cause.”
