We are so grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for its generous investment of $21,100 to help keep our community connected.

This funding has allowed Dorothy Ley Hospice to update our phone technology, strengthening how individuals, families, volunteers, staff and healthcare partners reach and communicate with us. Reliable connections are an essential part of providing responsive, compassionate hospice palliative care across our community.

A little glimpse of what's blooming around the hospice. 💚🌸

Our native pollinator garden has been welcoming bumblebees and monarch butterflies, while adding a bit of beauty to our outdoor spaces. Here are just a few of the blooms we've been enjoying lately.

A special thank you to Trees for Life Green Cities Foundation Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association, and Markland Wood Golf Club for helping refresh and brighten our garden and patio, creating a peaceful place for residents, families, volunteers, staff, and visitors to enjoy.

What inspires someone to become a hospice volunteer?

“My husband, Art, came to hospice in 2013. I’d never even heard of a place like this before.

One staff member changed everything for me. After asking Art what he’d like for dinner, he turned to me and said, ‘What can I get for you?’

I was completely blown away.

The way we were treated stayed with me. That’s why I became a volunteer.

For more than ten years, this hospice became part of my life. I met extraordinary people, made lifelong friends, and tried to give back the same kindness my family had received.

I’ve experienced great love and great loss, but this place has always reminded me that compassion matters.

Sometimes, the smallest act of kindness becomes the reason someone spends years helping others.”

Anne is now a resident here at our Hospice and is grateful to be a recipient of the excellent care she once was able to offer.

Sometimes the smallest visitors make the biggest impact. 💚🐴

Stash the Therapy Horse stopped by on Saturday, bringing gentle nuzzles, cuddles, smiles, and moments of calm to our residents and volunteers.

As Toronto's only Certified Therapy Mini Equine, Stash shares comfort and connection through One Health Partners' animal-assisted therapy program. We always love welcoming him to the hospice!

Meet Errol, Hospice Residential Volunteer!

If you ever stop by Dorothy Ley Hospice on a Sunday morning, chances are you will be greeted by the calm and welcoming presence of one of our dedicated residential volunteers – Errol.

Volunteering has become a deeply meaningful part of Errol’s life. He has experienced many powerful moments at the bedside of residents and often says he receives far more from the experience than he gives.

We're proud to be hosting The Art of a Good Death at Dorothy Ley Hospice from July through September.

This thought-provoking exhibition brings together art and research to encourage reflection and conversation about death, dying, loss, and grief. Through the work of six artists from four provinces across Canada, visitors are invited to consider a simple yet profound question: What does it mean to die well?

We recently welcomed guests to a special reception to celebrate the exhibit's arrival at the Hospice. During the evening, Sarina Isenberg of the Bruyère Health Research Institute and Dr. Chris Gilchrist, Director of Quality & Research at Dorothy Ley Hospice, shared insights into the research behind the project and the role that art can play in fostering understanding and dialogue around end-of-life experiences.

The evening also gave us the opportunity to recognize generous supporters who were newly added to our donor recognition wall, as well as those who have reached new levels of giving. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to compassionate hospice care 💚.
