“Hi everyone! My name is Olivia Lee, and I’m so excited to be a part of the NJT community! I’ve always had a strong passion for helping others, especially when it comes to healthcare and making a positive impact in my community.

I’ve become especially interested in healthcare because I believe that access to the right resources can make such a meaningful difference in someone’s life. As I’ve learned more about healthcare around the world, I’ve realized how many communities still face barriers to receiving the care and supplies they need. This has motivated me to find ways to help and get others involved as well.

I was born in South Korea and moved to the United States when I was younger. Growing up between different cultures has allowed me to appreciate different communities and perspectives, and traveling has given me the opportunity to see how differently people live around the world.

When I found NJT, its mission immediately clicked with me. I love how it transforms potential medical waste into life-saving resources for communities in need. I wanted to start a chapter to bring this opportunity to my own community, inspire other people to get involved, and make a meaningful impact both locally and globally.

I’m so grateful to be a part of NJT, and I can’t wait to grow our chapter, connect with people who share this passion, and see what we can accomplish together!”

“Hello! My name is Gisella Lemos and I first found Not Just Tourists through a creator on Instagram, and I was fascinated by the work being done. When I looked for a chapter near me, I found none. I didn’t want my community to miss out, so I set out to bring NJT’s mission to the Sacramento area myself.
What drew me in most to NJT’s mission is how humanitarianism and environmentalism are brought together. That pairing matters to me because of something I’ve seen up close. In recent years I’ve been shadowing in the medical field, and I was astonished by how much waste is created, even by items that were never used. Knowing that people around the world go without those same supplies made it hard to ignore. It showed me that helping people and protecting the environment can be the same effort.

That’s why I decided to bring NJTGB to the area around me. NJT shows people that you don’t have to be a doctor or travel across the world to make a difference. Small actions, like a traveler bringing needed supplies, can make a big impact when add up.
Thank you so much for this opportunity to help grow NJT and raise awareness for this cause. I can’t wait to build a community here in Granite Bay and see what we can do together.”

Travellers Nicholla and Amy were part of a team that delivered suitcases to Mully Children’s Family in Kenya!

Their team of 31 included 3 physicians, 2 nurses, a pharmacist, an athletic therapist, a periodontist, a paramedic, and other volunteers. They ran a 5 day medical clinic and provided care to 1,727 patients through their medical, dental, and athletic therapy services.

The suitcases travelled with members from Canada to Dubai, on to Nairobi, and then to rural Ndalani.

In Ndalani, the supplies were put to immediate use across the medical, dental, and athletic therapy teams. Even some of the simplest supplies proved useful in unexpected ways. With families sometimes waiting for hours to receive care, their volunteers became creative; gloves were occasionally turned into balloons to entertain the children while they waited!
