ABOUT US & OUR GARDEN PROJECTS
We are a recognized not-for-profit that helps to make possible numerous public city gardens (pollinator gardens, edible gardens, therapeutic gardens, heritage gardens) that make for a more livable city . To do so, we raise funds through various events like garden tours, book sales, and our popular annual Plant Fair (held on the Saturday before Mother’s Day). Additio
nally, we are committed to the encouragement of gardening in schools, and to outreach that makes gardening accessible to those of all ages and physical or mental abilities. We believe that some things, like gardens, can cut through all boundaries and open the door to mutual understanding. LET’S GET ACQUAINTED
Join us at our meetings and listen to informative, insightful talks on all manner of horticulture. If you wish to officially join, membership is only $20 for the year and includes 8 talks, access to rare and unusual seeds/plants, discounts at select nurseries, use of the society’s library, a subscription to our newsletter, special invitations and offers available only to members, and a wonderful opportunity to connect with friendly and helpful gardening enthusiasts! OUR HISTORY
The Horticultural Societies of Parkdale and Toronto were founded in 1987 and 1834 respectively, and merged in 1988. Together with the Parkdale Society we continue a tradition of public beautification in central Toronto. The Society is also proud to have been responsible for the development of the Horticultural Gardens in 1858 (present day Allan Gardens), a building that is truly one of the city's best kept secrets. The Society is an affiliate of the Ontario Horticultural Association and is a not-for-profit public service organization recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs.
