Get Active 'N Play

Get Active 'N Play We are a Toronto based not-for-profit organization and our goal is to make Ontario the most active province in Canada! Founded in 2013.

We help people move, learn and grow though sport and games. Together let's bring outdoor play back! It's easier to pick up a controller and play your favourite games online with your friends than to play them outside. If television and video games are made so easily accessible, then why aren't sports? Our goal is to help create active communities by painting Sports Walls and using different ways t

o educate, motivate and inspire people to get active and play! Sports Walls are realistic sport nets painted on the outdoor walls and a sport court on the surrounding ground area of schools in order to resemble the real thing. It turns plain school walls into a sports zone where anyone can come play their favourite sports. Imagine being able to play basketball, volleyball, tennis as well as many other sports outside and only need a ball and friends to play!

🏆 The World Cup Effect: Turning Inspiration into Action! ⚽
Hey team! Coach here with a quick reminder: The FIFA World Cup isn't just about the pros on TV; it’s a golden opportunity to get our kids moving! 🏃‍♂️💨
We’ve all seen it happen. A child watches an incredible goal, and suddenly they are out in the yard trying to recreate it. They’re running, jumping, and practicing. Why? Because they’re inspired, not because they were told to exercise! 🙌
Our goal as educators and parents shouldn't be about building the next high-pressure superstar. It’s about making movement feel like an adventure. 🌟 Let's leverage this excitement:
⚽ Set up mini soccer games during recess.
🎒 Create World Cup-themed movement challenges in the classroom.
🏡 Encourage backyard games with friends and family.
If kids associate physical activity with joy and positive memories, those healthy habits will last long after the tournament ends. Let’s make movement fun! 🎉

⚽🇨🇦 Did You Know? Canada’s journey to the FIFA World Cup looked very different in 1986.
Many players on Canada’s first-ever World Cup team weren’t full-time professional soccer players. They balanced training, work, and everyday responsibilities while competing against some of the best teams in the world. 🌎🏆
As educators, this is one of our favorite reminders that success isn’t reserved for people with perfect circumstances. Consistency, commitment, and teamwork can take you further than talent alone.
Whether you're an athlete, student, parent, or teacher, there’s a lesson here: big achievements are built through small daily efforts.

Got kids with attention spans shorter than a TikTok video? 🫣 I see you, parents and teachers! Keeping them engaged when summer fever is kicking in is no joke: but I’ve got the ultimate game plan to turn that restless energy into pure creativity and movement!
Welcome to the JUNE Story Challenge: The Great Escape! 🌻🏃‍♀️
We are kicking off summer by taking our movement and writing games to the next level. Last month was incredible, but this month, we’re leveling up with a fast-paced twist: The 30-Minute Blitz. ⏱️⚡
📋 YOUR GAME PLAN:
Pick a Word: Choose a word that is 4 or more letters long.
Move Your Body: Complete the designated exercises for every single letter in that word. 💪
Write the Story: Drop that word into a sentence to start (or continue) building an epic summer tale. 📝
No Pausing! Instead of doing one word a day, the clock is ticking! Repeat the process continuously for 30 minutes straight to see how much of a wild story you can build before the timer runs out!
Get outside! 🛑 Don’t just sit there - look around, listen to the birds, look at the trees, and soak up the summer inspiration. The world is your ultimate brainstorming board right now.
Grab your sneakers, grab your pencils, and let’s get active and play! 💥
👉 Drop a 🔥 in the comments if your kids are taking on the 30-Minute Blitz today! Don't forget to tag us so we can read your wild summer stories!

Class is in session, and today's lesson is: Never underestimate the power of community sports! 🧠⚽
In 1985, Canada made World Cup history thanks to George Pakos: a full-time warehouse worker and indoor league player who scored the game-winning goal against Honduras. 🏆
This is exactly why we do what we do at Get Active ’N Play. You don't need a pro-level budget to achieve pro-level dreams. Active kids turn into healthy, confident leaders.
Let's lace up those sneakers, hit the field, and get active today! Who knows where a little playtime could take you? 🌟

🏃‍♂️ Let’s Ask the Right Question: Do Kids Need Motivation, or Just Room to Play? 🧩
Let’s talk strategy, team. 📣 As educators, coaches, and parents, we often hear the same question over and over: "How do we motivate kids to be more active?" We are shifting the perspective entirely.
The truth is, the motivation is already built-in! 🧠✨ Young children are naturally wired to move, explore, and turn a simple stick into a magic wand. They don’t need another motivational speech- what they are losing are the unstructured places to play. Between rigid school schedules, homework, organized sports, and screen time, free exploration is disappearing.
At Get Active n Play, we believe that play isn’t a reward you earn after learning. Play IS learning. 🎒 It is how children build:
Confidence & Resilience 💪
Problem-Solving Skills 🧩
Physical Literacy & Communication 🗣️
Instead of trying to force motivation, let’s focus on building more inclusive, accessible, and safe community spaces where kids can just be kids. No performance pressures, no evaluations - just pure, unstructured fun. 🌳
💬 Let's Huddle Up:
Think back to when you were a kid. What was your favorite playground or open space to explore? How can we protect those spaces for the next generation? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

📖 The Power of a Story (and a Little Belief!) ✨

There’s a beautiful lesson in the full May Story Challenge that we can all carry into our daily lives. Just like the forgotten tree in our story, sometimes all it takes is a little care, consistency, and belief to spark big change and help something - or someone - bloom again. 🌸🌱
As coaches and mentors, we see this every day: small actions create huge ripples. One child’s kindness didn't just save a tree; it inspired an entire village!
🚀 June Challenge Announcement!
Now that the May chapter is officially closed, it’s time to pass the microphone to YOU. We want to hear your unique voices!
Our June Story Challenge is officially live, and we can't wait to see the creativity you bring to the table. Let’s get active, let’s get creative, and let’s play! 🧠✨

Your child can move, write, laugh, and build a story in just 30 minutes. ☀️📚

The June Story Challenge is here, and this month’s theme is:

Summer Kickoff: The Great Escape

This is a simple movement-based literacy activity for:

Parents looking for screen-free summer activities
Teachers looking for active classroom ideas
Homeschool families looking for writing prompts with movement
Kids who need to move before they can focus
Families who want fun, easy physical activity at home

Here’s how it works:

Pick a 4+ letter word.
Complete the exercise for each letter.
Use that word in a sentence to build your story.
Repeat for 30 minutes or keep going all month long.

By the end, your child has written their own story while getting active at the same time.

It’s creative writing, physical literacy, vocabulary practice, movement breaks, and summer fun in one challenge.

Save this carousel for your classroom, homeschool plan, summer learning routine, or next family activity.

Tag us when you share your story:

We’ll feature some of our favourite stories on our social media!
