🌻🍁 GROWING GRATITUDE: GIVING THANKS & GROWING TOGETHER! ☀️💛

What an incredible Thanksgiving celebration at Sunshine! 🦃🍂🎉

Today, we gathered at 9 Haldon Avenue for a joyful, high-energy Thanksgiving Luncheon celebrating the first year of our Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Grow Grant! 🌱

Thanks to a generous $360,700 grant over three years, Sunshine is bringing nutritious meals, exciting activities, friendship and meaningful connections to seniors living in Toronto's social housing communities. 💕

✨ 155 seniors reached and over 1,200 program visits so far! And we're just getting started!

🎶 A HUGE thank you to Xenia Concerts for presenting the wonderfully talented FabCollab, who brought incredible music, energy and joy to our celebration! 🎤💃🕺

💛 Special thanks to MPP Mary-Margaret McMahon for joining us, the Ontario Trillium Foundation for making these programs possible, and especially our AMAZING Sunshine staff and volunteers for delivering such a fun-filled, high-energy celebration! ☀️👏

This Growing Gratitude month, we’re shining the spotlight on the wonderful Sonia Brock, who brings warmth, curiosity and connection to our Sunshine Virtual Programs as a volunteer program facilitator and participant! 🌱💻

Sonia is a retired Webmistress who loves to read and write - and when she’s not bringing people together at Sunshine, you might find her playing World of Warcraft with her sister in Moose Jaw! 🎮📚❤️

Sonia is a lovely, intelligent presence in our Sunshine community who makes everyone feel warm, welcome and heard in her virtual space.

☕ Coffee, Tea & Sunshine: Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m.
📖 Virtual Short Story Program: Wednesdays, 2-3 p.m.

There’s something special about sharing good food with good company!

Our Strathmore group enjoyed a delicious dim sum outing at Supreme Taste in East Chinatown - gathering around the table to eat, laugh, catch up and enjoy each other’s company. 🥢🫖

This October, we’re Growing Gratitude for moments just like these. Sometimes gratitude is found in the simplest things: a shared meal, a full table, a good conversation and a community to belong to. 💛

Today, we celebrate the incredible older adults who bring wisdom, creativity, resilience, friendship and Sunshine to our communities every day.

At Sunshine, we believe everyone deserves to age with dignity, joy, connection and belonging - while continuing to learn, lead, create, explore and have fun! 🌻

And as we begin a new month, we're turning our attention to something that grows stronger when we share it...

🌈🎶 WELLNESS TOGETHER: SINGING IN CELEBRATION 🎶🌈

Today, the Sunshine Singers filled the Rainbow Program with music, memories and a whole lot of love as we came together for a special sing-along celebrating the life of Michelle DuBarry. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

A huge thank you to Alan, Amber, Marlin and Glenn for helping us pay tribute to Michelle through a joyful collection of Rainbow favourites. Our Rainbow seniors sang their hearts out to some gay old tunes - sharing plenty of smiles, laughter and beautiful memories along the way. 🎤🎸🌈

Because wellness isn't only about taking care of our bodies. It's about music, connection, remembrance, belonging and celebrating the people who have brought Sunshine into our lives. ☀️

Michelle's spirit was certainly with us today. 🌈💕

☀️ Sunshine Spotlight: Zuz & Paul! 💛

Today we’re shining the spotlight on two wonderful members of our Sunshine team who bring their own unique talents to Wellness Together!

🌻 Zuz is one of our amazing Program Coordinators, supporting 25 Elm, Rainbow, 9 Haldon and 460 Jarvis. Beyond creating welcoming spaces for our seniors, Zuz is also a talented artist and amazing ballroom dancer - bringing plenty of creativity, movement and joy wherever she goes! 💃🎨

🛠️ Paul works with our SAHM (Seniors Assistance Home Maintenance) Program, helping seniors remain comfortable and supported at home via lawn maintenance, leaf raking, and snow shoveling. A longtime Toronto artist with deep roots in Cabbagetown, Paul also brings community experience from volunteering at Allan Gardens. For him, the work is a way to give back, stay active and support local seniors.

Different talents, different roles, one shared purpose: spreading Sunshine and Wellness Together. ☀️💚
