🌞 Sunshine Spotlight: Meet Jeremy Collins 💛

Some legacies are simply too special to end.

Jeremy Collins, one of our newest volunteers at Wellesley CC/Rekai and Camp Sunshine, first volunteered here over 50 years ago alongside his mother, Sylvia Stokes: Sunshine's very first volunteer.

After Sylvia passed away at nearly 101, Jeremy returned to honour her legacy.

"Volunteering at Camp Sunshine is the perfect way to honour my mom's memory. She believed in the joy and restorative power of Camp Sunshine, and now I have the privilege of helping create those same happy memories for others." – Jeremy Collins

🏰🌈 A Royal Adventure at Casa Loma!

Our Rainbow Seniors enjoyed a wonderful day exploring the history, architecture, and beautiful gardens of Toronto's iconic Casa Loma. From grand halls to breathtaking views, it was a day filled with discovery, laughter, and friendship.

A heartfelt thank you to the Pride and Remembrance Run Foundation for making outings like this possible. Your support helps our LGBTQ2S+ seniors stay connected, active, and engaged in our community. 💜

🌈💜 Honouring Michelle DuBarry

All of us at Sunshine Centres for Seniors are deeply saddened by the passing of the legendary Michelle DuBarry (Russell Alldread).

We were truly blessed to have Michelle join us at our Intergenerational Rainbow Pride Festival just last month, where she shared her warmth, kindness, humour, and incredible spirit with our community. Looking back, we're especially grateful for those joyful moments together.

Michelle was more than an icon - she was a trailblazer, an entertainer, and a champion of kindness whose legacy touched generations across Toronto's 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Michelle's family, friends, and everyone whose lives she brightened.

If you're able, we encourage our community to celebrate Michelle's extraordinary life at her Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 26, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at Woody's (467 Church Street).

Thank you, Michelle, for sharing your light with us. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. 💜✨

🏛️✨ Exploring Ontario's Legislature!

Our Wellesley/Rekai group enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, where participants explored one of Toronto's most beautiful historic landmarks and learned more about how our provincial government works.

From the breathtaking architecture and stained-glass ceilings to standing inside the Legislative Chamber, everyone had a fantastic time. As Program Coordinator Ken shared, "The tour guide was professional and everyone enjoyed the trip really well. Highly recommend it to all program coordinators!"

A big thank you to the staff at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for such a warm welcome and engaging tour. Experiences like these help keep our members active, curious, connected, and inspired while discovering the rich history of our city.

The Sunshine Singers had a fantastic time celebrating Carnival with a lively sing-along filled with music, laughter, dancing, and plenty of smiles. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a joyful morning! 💛
