We recently welcomed CBC News to our food bank to learn more about the After the Bell program!

At SPANL, 65% of the food distributed through our food bank goes to children under the age of 17. Programs like After the Bell play an important role in helping ensure kids have access to healthy snacks!

Food bank usage continues to rise across Canada, and Newfoundland and Labrador is no exception. Currently 25.5% of people in our province live in food insecure households, and the demand at our food bank continues to grow each week. Since January alone we have welcomed 53 new families to our food bank, many of these families are first time food bank users.

We have been fortunate to provide fresh food to the families we serve however, our current refrigeration capacity limits how much fresh food we can accept and distribute. To help meet this growing need, we are fundraising for an additional refrigerator at a cost of $6000.

Over the next three weeks, we will be fundraising to support this initiative. Every dollar donated will help us towards our goal!

If you would like to support this campaign, please visit our website at https://spanl.ca/donations/ and select "Food Bank" as the fund you would like to donate toπŸ’™
