Congratulations to Ben Diamond! We're thrilled to celebrate our wonderful volunteer, Ben, on being named 2026 Solo Artist of the Year by MusicNL!

Ben generously shares his time and talents with The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library, assessing and repairing donated guitars to ensure they're in excellent condition and ready to be placed in the hands of young learners.

His skill, dedication, and generosity help us give more students the opportunity to discover the joy of making music.

We're incredibly grateful to have Ben as part of our team of volunteers, and couldn't be happier to see his musical talents recognized!

This past Saturday marked another major milestone for The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library — our very first instrument distribution!

We distributed roughly 100 instruments to music teachers who had reserved them for students in their schools. We are absolutely thrilled to see these instruments beginning to make their way into classrooms and into the hands of young musicians.

And this is only the beginning. In the days and weeks ahead, we expect more teachers to reserve instruments as school bands are organized and students who do not have access to an instrument are identified.

We were also very pleased to welcome CBC reporters to the distribution event and to have the opportunity to share this important moment with a wider audience.

A sincere thank-you to Memorial University and, in particular, the School of Music for allowing us to use their building as our central instrument distribution location for the afternoon. Their support helped make our first distribution day possible.

We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this point — and we’re excited for what comes next.

After months of fundraising, the Katie Sullivan Instrument Library handed out dozens of musical instruments to music teachers on Saturday. As CBC’s Abby Cole reports, the library aims to provide instruments to students who can’t afford their own.

We’re currently looking for community and corporate sponsors for The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library’s 2nd Annual Holiday Fundraiser, taking place on Sunday, December 20, 2026, at the Delta Hotel in St. John’s.

The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library provides musical instruments free of charge to students across Newfoundland and Labrador who face financial barriers to participating in school music programs.

Our Holiday Fundraiser will feature live music, food, auctions, raffles, a 50/50 draw, and our Sponsor an Instrument appeal — all in support of helping more young people across the province access the instruments they need to participate in music education.

Sponsorship opportunities are currently available at the following levels:

Presenting Sponsor — $5,000
Gold Sponsor — $3,000
Silver Sponsor — $2,000
Bronze Sponsor — $1,000

Depending on the sponsorship level, sponsors receive benefits such as event tickets, logo placement, social media recognition, MC acknowledgement, event-screen and program visibility, website recognition, and other promotional opportunities.

The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library is inviting businesses, companies, and community organizations to support our Annual Holiday Fundraiser, taking place Sunday, December 20, 2026 at the Delta Hotel in St. John’s.

There are a variety of sponsorship levels and opportunities available, making it possible for organizations of different sizes to get involved and help support accessible music education across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Businesses can support the fundraiser in several ways:

🎸 Match a Sponsored Instrument
Commit in advance to match one or more instruments during our Sponsor an Instrument appeal, helping double the impact of gifts made during the event. This can be added to an event sponsorship or selected on its own.

Congrats to our organization’s namesake, Katie Sullivan, on her appointment as Conductor with Calos Youth Orchestras. Amazing news!

🎶 Welcome, Katie Sullivan! 🎶

CALOS Youth Orchestras is delighted to welcome Katie Sullivan as the new Conductor of the CALOS Wind Ensemble and Co-Conductor of the Concert Orchestra for the 2026–2027 season.

Katie is an accomplished educator, performer, and advocate for young musicians. She has been teaching instrumental music in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1995 and has inspired generations of students through her dedication to music education, ensemble performance, and student growth.

A member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra since 1993, Katie was appointed Principal Trumpet in 2004. She brings a wealth of experience as an orchestral musician, chamber performer, and soloist.

Many young musicians throughout the province already know Katie as a supportive teacher, mentor, and leader whose enthusiasm for music is contagious. We are thrilled to have her join the CALOS team and look forward to the energy, expertise, and passion for music education she will bring to our musicians this season.
