πŸ†πŸ Prince of Wales Breakfast Program – Koeslag Cup Competition | June Edition | DAY 5 πŸπŸ†

The final day of the Koeslag Cup brought plenty of creativity, teamwork, and Canadian spirit to the Prince of Wales Breakfast Program!

The Friday Team fielded the largest roster of the week, with eight Rotarians and volunteers working together to create a fun breakfast experience for the students. With breakfast served in the hall, there was lots of running back and forth as the team kept plates full and students smiling.

Embracing a β€œGo Canada Go!” theme, the menu featured:

πŸ₯ž Pancakes with syrup, Timbits, blueberries, and sprinkles
πŸ“ Fresh fruit with yogurt and cheese
🍁 Maple leaf Jell-O treats
πŸ₯£ Choice of cereal
🍨 Vanilla ice cream cups
πŸ₯› Chocolate milk

By all accounts, the breakfast was a hit and enjoyed by everyone who stopped by.

A huge thank you to the Friday Team:

πŸ‘ Linn Thain
πŸ‘ Doug Armstrong
πŸ‘ Jeff Parker
πŸ‘ Nick Avonlitis
πŸ‘ Donna Chestnut Burley
πŸ‘ Mahin Mazdayasin
πŸ‘ Brian Wilson
πŸ‘ Dale Wilson

And just like that, the June Koeslag Cup competition comes to a close! Five teams. Five unique menus. Lots of creativity, friendly competition, and volunteer spirit.

Most importantly, throughout the week, approximately 60–80 students each morning were welcomed with a hot breakfast and caring volunteers who helped them start their day on a positive note.

πŸ† The winning team and recipient of the Koeslag Cup will be announced at an upcoming Rotary summer meeting. Stay tuned!

While the rain poured outside, the Thursday Team created a warm, welcoming breakfast buffet inside for the students at Prince of Wales Public School.

This morning’s menu offered something for everyone:

πŸ₯€ Smoothies
πŸ“ Fruit kebabs
πŸ₯£ Yogurt
πŸ₯£ Cereal
🍳 Scrambled eggs
πŸ₯Ÿ Perogies
πŸ₯” Hashbrowns
🍞 Cinnamon pitas
πŸ‡ Raisin toast

The team of Rotarians Anita Erschen-Pappas, Kelli Grady, Tony Grady, and special guest Charlie Tzavelas kept the kitchen humming while serving up plenty of smiles and laughter along the way.

From colourful fruit kebabs and fresh smoothies to hot breakfast favourites, students had lots of delicious choices to start their day.

The Koeslag Cup judges now have another strong contender to consider. With just one day remaining in the competition, the race for breakfast bragging rights is heating up! πŸ”₯πŸ†

The Koeslag Cup competition took a deliciously unexpected turn on Day 3 as the Wednesday Team rolled out a breakfast that had students smiling from ear to ear.

The crew of Joe McCulloch, Stan Pineau, Diane Pineau, Hugh Birch, Mary Russell, and Eleanor Down served up a menu that can only be described as a crowd-pleaser:

🍟 Poutine
πŸ“ Jell-O cups topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries
πŸ₯€ Smoothies
🍦 Ice cream bars

More than 80 happy students came through the breakfast program, making it one of the busiest mornings of the competition so far.

The Wednesday Team spent the morning assembling colourful Jell-O parfaits, preparing poutine, blending smoothies, and creating a breakfast experience suitable for a year-end celebration.

Judging by the smiles, thumbs-up reviews, and empty bowls, the students were definitely on board with Wednesday’s strategy. πŸ‘πŸ˜„

The big question now: Was this a brilliant Koeslag Cup move… or will the judges be looking for something completely different?

With two days still to go, the competition remains wide open. Stay tuned! πŸ†πŸ”₯

πŸ“πŸ† Prince of Wales Breakfast Program – Koeslag Cup Competition | June Edition | DAY 2 πŸ†πŸ“

Day 2 of the Koeslag Cup competition saw the Tuesday Team bring both creativity and colour to the breakfast table!

Rotarians Colin MacKenzie, Leigh Ramsay, Mary Anne Greco, Donna-Marie Fennell, and special guest volunteer Noah served up a breakfast that looked almost too good to eat.

On the menu:
🍳 Scrambled eggs
πŸ₯” Hash browns
πŸ“ Fruit skewers
πŸ§€ Cheese and crackers
πŸ§‡ Waffles with syrup and sprinkles
πŸ₯› Chocolate milk

The star of the show? The fruit skewers.

The Tuesday Team reported that 62 students enjoyed breakfast, and they couldn’t believe how quickly the fruit disappeared. More than two full platters of colourful fruit skewers were devoured by hungry students!

Behind the scenes, the team spent the morning slicing strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, and grapes, carefully assembling dozens of skewers before service began. Judging by the reaction from the students, the effort paid off.

Of course, no Koeslag Cup entry would be complete without a little flair. There were waffles topped with syrup and sprinkles, plenty of smiles in the kitchen, and even some enthusiastic fruit-skewer quality control from the volunteers. πŸ‰πŸ˜„

With two teams now in the books, the competition is heating up. Will the Tuesday Team’s fruit-filled feast be enough to claim the top spot?

Stay tuned as the remaining teams make their pitch for Koeslag Cup glory! πŸ†

πŸ₯žπŸ† Prince of Wales Breakfast Program – Koeslag Cup Competition | June Edition | DAY 1 πŸ†πŸ₯ž

The June Koeslag Cup competition is officially underway!

The Monday Team of Billy Nolan, Myrlene Sundberg, and Catherine Hanrahan kicked things off with a breakfast that was equal parts delicious and memorable.

On the menu:
πŸ₯ž Pancakes with whipped cream, strawberries, and sprinkles
πŸ₯€ Smoothies
πŸ₯” Hash browns
πŸ§€ Cheesy scrambled eggs

The pancakes were such a hit that they disappeared before everyone had a chance to get one. Not to be outdone, some creative students decided to top their hash browns with whipped cream and sprinkles instead… and according to the Monday Team, they absolutely loved it! πŸ˜‚

As always, the breakfast was made with plenty of care, teamwork, and enthusiasm. By the end of the morning, there were lots of happy students, empty serving trays, and (of course) a mountain of dirty dishes.

The question now is: Was it enough to impress the judges and put the Monday Team in early contention for the coveted Koeslag Cup? πŸ€”πŸ†

Stay tuned as the rest of the Breakfast Club teams bring their A-game throughout the week!

🐾 Supporting Pets and Their People 🐾

The Rotary Club of Peterborough’s Local Service Committee recently partnered with Kawartha Food Share to help provide pet food for families in our community.

Through a $750 donation and the generous support of Canadian Naturals and Pet Supply Warehouse, a large quantity of dog food, cat food, and canned pet food was provided in easy-to-distribute sizes.

Rotarians Colin MacKenzie and Karen Laws joined Melissa Pulham and Sunday Abodunrin from Kawartha Food Share for the delivery.

For many people, pets are family. Helping families care for their furry companions is another way we can support the well-being of our community.

Thank you to Canadian Naturals, Pet Supply Warehouse owner Ted LaBranche, and Kawartha Food Share for helping make this project possible.
