Every dog that comes to us has a journey, and many of those journeys begin with a compassionate volunteer willing to give up their time to drive a dog to safety. Whether it’s a short trip across town or a long transport across the province, our volunteer drivers are often the first step toward a new life.

Three years ago, Apple’s journey to her forever home began with one such transport by our wonderful volunteer, Heidi, pictured below. Today Apple is living her best senior life, loved beyond measure, and it’s a beautiful reminder of the impact a single act of kindness can have.

To all of our volunteer drivers, past and present, thank you. Your dedication, generosity, and willingness to hit the road for dogs in need help make happy endings like Apple’s possible. ❤️🚗💨 🐾

🐾 Honouring Bentley’s Legacy 🐾

Many of you may recognize Bentley as the beloved English Bulldog who portrayed Terror on the hit television series The Boys.

While Bentley won the hearts of millions on screen, he was first and foremost a cherished family member, and his recent passing has left a tremendous void for those who loved him.

In an incredibly generous gesture, Bentley’s family has chosen to honour his memory by creating a special collection of Bentley merchandise, with proceeds benefiting English Bulldog Rescue of Ontario (EBRO).

We are deeply touched that they have chosen to support our rescue and the bulldogs in our care. Every purchase helps provide medical care, rehabilitation, foster care, and second chances to bulldogs who need us most.

Bentley’s legacy will continue to make a difference in the lives of bulldogs for years to come.

Thank you to Bentley’s family for their kindness, generosity, and for allowing his love of bulldogs to live on through this meaningful partnership.

🐢❤️ While bulldogs may be our specialty, our love for animals doesn’t stop there.

As a rescue organization, we have a deep appreciation for all creatures who need a helping hand, including Ontario’s native turtles, many of whom face incredible challenges during nesting season.

Our friends at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre located here in Peterborough are currently experiencing an overwhelming number of admissions and calls. If you come across an injured turtle or have concerns about a nesting turtle, please take a moment to read their post and familiarize yourself with the resources they provide.

Every species plays an important role, and every life is worth protecting.

Thank you to the amazing team and volunteers at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre for the lifesaving work you do every day. 🐢💚

Over the weekend, we surpassed 700 intakes and are currently receiving an extremely high volume of calls a day. Please read below for some helpful resources and reminders if we're unable to answer you right away during this busy time.

⚠️If you find an injured turtle, please place it in a dry container, note the exact location where it was found, and call us at 705-741-5000, option 9. Please leave only one voicemail and our team will get back to you as soon as they can. Our hospital is open daily between 8:00am-8:00pm, and if you can drive the turtle to us, please use our hospital entrance and hand it off to a staff member during these operating hours.

⚠️Can't drive to Peterborough? We can help assist getting the turtle to our hospital through our volunteer Turtle Taxi Program! You MUST have the turtle in your possession for us to be able to assist, as we don't have resources to travel and locate each turtle. Keep in mind that it will take time to arrange these rides. While you wait, leave the turtle in the well-ventilated container. Place it in a location that is dark, quiet, room temperature, and away from pets.

⚠️For nesting inquiries or concerns — please visit our website at ontarioturtle.ca/nest, call and use Line 4, or email [email protected]. To find turtle organizations near you that may be able to help, please visit www.otcn.ca.

🎉🐾 A Very Special Birthday Girl! 🐾🎉

This weekend, our sweet Poppy celebrated a milestone — her 1st Birthday! 🎂💗

When Poppy came into rescue, we promised her a brighter future. What we didn’t know at the time was that she would completely capture the heart of her foster mom along the way.

We’re thrilled to share that Poppy’s birthday comes with an extra special gift this year… her foster mom has officially decided to adopt her! 🏡❤️

There is nothing we love more than a foster failure story, and Poppy’s is a perfect reminder of why we do what we do. She has found exactly where she belongs, surrounded by love, comfort, and a family who adores her.

Happy 1st Birthday, Poppy! 🎉 May your days be filled with treats, snuggles, adventures, and all the love your little bulldog heart can hold.

Congratulations to Poppy and her mom, Heidi, on making it official! 💕🐶🥳

🐾 Crumpet Update 🐾

Little Crumpet recently made the trip to see Dr. Carl Porter at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital for an orthopedic consultation regarding the deformities in her front legs.

Before we get to that update, we're happy to report that Crumpet has recovered beautifully from her recent spay surgery and lower eyelid entropion repair. Her eyes are looking much more comfortable, and she has bounced back like a champion.

As many of you know, Crumpet came into rescue with some unique orthopedic challenges. After reviewing her radiographs and examining her, Dr. Porter confirmed the findings of our vet. Crumpet has congenital deformities affecting both front legs, including elbow subluxation and abnormal bone growth that has resulted in her characteristic bowed forelimbs. She was also found to have hip dysplasia, although it is not currently causing her any discomfort.

The encouraging news is that Crumpet doesn't seem to have gotten the memo that anything is wrong with her. She continues to zoom around the yard, play with her foster siblings, and enjoy life to the fullest. Her comfort, mobility, and overall function are currently good.

While arthritis is expected to develop over time, surgery would be complex and may not necessarily provide a significant long-term benefit. For now, the recommendation is to monitor her closely, keep her at a healthy lean weight, and support her joints with appropriate supplements. Once she reaches skeletal maturity and her growth plates close, a CT scan may be considered to help determine whether any surgical options would be beneficial.

In the meantime, Crumpet will continue doing what she does best, being a happy, mischievous little bulldog and stealing hearts wherever she goes.
Speaking of stealing hearts... we have a feeling Crumpet may have already made a permanent impression on her foster family. While no official decisions have been made, it's safe to say they are completely smitten with this special little girl, and we wouldn't be surprised if Crumpet's foster home ends up becoming her forever home. ❤️😉

Thank you to everyone who has supported Crumpet's journey so far. Your donations, shares, kind words, and encouragement allow us to help dogs like Crumpet receive the specialized care they need. We look forward to sharing more updates as this adorable little bulldog continues to thrive.

‼️ HEAT WARNING FOR BULLDOGS & FLAT FACED BREEDS. Temperatures will be sizzling today. Even a short walk or time outside in the heat can quickly become dangerous for bulldogs and other flat faced breeds. Please know the signs, act fast, and when in doubt seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Stay safe and keep those squishy faces cool this summer!

Please help us welcome Charlie to the EBRO family 💚

Charlie is a 5-year-old girl who has been transferred into the care of EBRO from our rescue friends at Harmony Haven.

Charlie originally came into Harmony Haven’s care in critical condition suffering from pyometra, a dangerous and life-threatening infection that required emergency surgery. Thanks to their quick action, Charlie received lifesaving pyometra surgery, and was given a second chance. We are incredibly grateful to them for stepping in and saving her life.

Now that Charlie is in EBRO’s care, we will be taking over the next stage of her medical journey. Like many bulldogs, Charlie is also struggling with significant eye and skin issues, and we knew we could help provide the breed-specific care she needs moving forward.

Charlie is currently relaxing in foster care with her EBRO foster family while she prepares for her upcoming veterinary appointment with our wonderful vet team. We are hopeful that with proper treatment and care, Charlie will be feeling much more comfortable very soon.

As always, we could not continue helping dogs like Charlie without your support. EBRO is a volunteer-run, non-profit rescue and 100% of donations go directly toward the care and medical needs of the dogs in our program.
If you would like to support Charlie’s ongoing care, donations can be made through our Canada Helps page:

Welcome to EBRO, Charlie 💚

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing friends at The Local Pet Pantry and Oli + Fetch for hosting such a fun and successful mobile dog wash fundraiser! 🛁🐾💚

A very special shoutout to RJ from Oli + Fetch, who spent the day busy scrubbing pups clean and generously donated a portion of the proceeds to EBRO. Thanks to everyone who came out to support, $210 was raised for the bulldogs in our care! 🐶.

RJ did an amazing job with all of the pups, and we would absolutely love for our supporters to check out www.oliandfetch.ca to support RJ’s local small business! If your pup could use a bath and some pampering, be sure to give his page a look. 🐕✨

We also want to thank our wonderful volunteers, Rachel, Stephanie, and Ashley for helping run the event and keeping everything moving smoothly throughout the day. We truly couldn’t do this without the support of our community.

Thank you to everyone who brought their dogs out, supported the fundraiser, and helped make the day such a success! 💚

Reina’s surgery day 🩺 🏥 💕

Reina is scheduled for her surgery today and she could use all the positive thoughts. She will be undergoing her spay, nares enlargement, and possibly bilateral cherry eye surgery depending on timing and how she does under anesthesia. While we know it’s a lot, we’re hopeful these procedures will greatly improve her comfort and quality of life moving forward. 💖

Her surgery was initially delayed after she went into heat shortly after arriving into our care. In addition, our veterinary team recommended that she lose more weight first to make anesthesia as safe as possible for her. Safety always comes first. She’s been doing well and working hard on getting healthier and surgery-ready. 🩷

Thank you to everyone who continues to support EBRO’s bulldogs through their journeys. Veterinary care is one of the biggest expenses in rescue, and we truly couldn’t do this without you all. Please keep Reina in your thoughts as she heads into surgery. 🐾.

For anyone wishing to donate to assist with Reina’s expenses, please visit our donation site at:

We are a volunteer, non-profit registered charity with 100% of donations going to support the bulldogs in our care. 🐾💕
