Meet Freddy! ⭐🔭

If you’re on our email list, you may have already met Freddy. Now we’re sharing his story here too!

Freddy is in Grade 10 in the Computer Program at Instituto Polivalente in Nuevo Paraíso. With the help of his FoHC scholarship, he has been able to purchase books, a computer, and other supplies he needs for school.

Freddy loves learning about the universe and the stars, and one day he hopes to become an astronomer. ✨

This is the difference an FoHC scholarship can make.

This Fund Friday, meet one of the newest additions to the Community Foundation: the Friends of Honduran Children Fund.

Friends of Honduran Children began in Peterborough nearly half a century ago and has since helped support schools, health care and educational opportunities in Honduras.

Carmen is one of the young people whose life has been changed. She arrived at the children’s village after growing up sleeping on a mat on a dirt floor. This fall, she’ll graduate from high school and has applied to university to become a veterinarian.

This new legacy will help ensure that work continues for the next generation.

Happy Canada Day from Friends of Honduran Children! 🇨🇦 🍁 ❤

Today, we have a special update to share with you as we celebrate the meaningful relationships that connect Canada and Honduras.

We are excited to share photos of our friend Luis, the English teacher at Nuevo Paraíso, delivering printers, ink, and paper to 4 rural schools in Honduras.

At one of the schools, parents gathered alongside school staff to receive the printer!

This Canada Day, we are grateful for the opportunity to build relationships across borders, learn from one another, and work together to create more opportunities for children.

"My name is Kimberly Maryury. I’m 23 years old. I arrived at Sociedad Amigos when I was just two years old.

What seemed like a difficult time in my life became the beginning of a new story: there I found not only a safe place, but a true family that filled me with love, care, and hope.

I grew up surrounded by wonderful people, including foreign visitors who, with their affection and dedication, planted dreams in me that I had never known existed. I also received a complete education, from kindergarten through high school, where I learned English and computer skills and discovered the power of education as a tool to transform my future.

Today, I am finishing my university degree in hospitality and tourism, a decision born from my passion for service and for connecting with people from different cultures.

My biggest dream is to continue growing professionally and, one day, be able to give back everything I’ve received by supporting other young people who, like me, just need an opportunity to succeed.

To you, donors, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support not only funds studies, it transforms lives, builds dreams, and sows hope where it’s needed most. "
