Thank you to the Chantry Island Cham-bettes , our Board Chair Alissa and our volunteer coordinator Bronwen, who came out for Day One of our “Foliage Fridays” and helped clean up the shelter gardens. We have 3 more opportunities for your church, workplace or service club to come out and help on Friday afternoons from 2-4:30pm. It’s a huge property and we so appreciate the community help. If you have a group that might want to volunteer, please reach out and say hi to Bronwen: [email protected] or stop by our Community Engagement Centre in the Tipsy Fox plaza, Owen Sound. 🪴🪏🏡

Did you know?! The Women’s Shelter in Owen Sound is pet friendly 🐕 🐈 🐇 🐢 🦜
The Women & Youth Crisis Centre Grey Bruce is a safe space for Women, Children and their pets 💜 🐾

Mariska Hargitay has spent decades advocating for survivors of domestic violence. When she learned that 48–50% of survivors delay leaving because they fear for their pets’ safety, and that less than 20% of U.S. shelters accept animals, she knew she had to act .

She partnered with the Purple Leash Project—a Purina and RedRover initiative—to fund pet‑friendly shelter renovations nationwide . The project has awarded over 60 grants, creating an estimated 282,825 safe nights for survivors and their pets .

“The idea that a survivor has to choose between their own safety and the safety of their pet is just untenable,” Hargitay said . “We must do everything we can to support survivors [to] heal together.” 🐾💜

The free event runs 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday, with a parade along 2nd Avenue East and a block party on 9th Street East that closes the road until 11:30 p.m.

Congratulations Amanda!

Congratulations Amanda!

Last week I was proud to recognize Amanda Hurley who was a recipient of the Attorney General’s Victim Services Award of Distinction.

This award recognizes the dedication of those who work to support victims of crime and raise awareness of their issues.

Amanda’s work with the Women and Youth Crisis Centre Grey Bruce is a shining example of care and dedication in standing with and for victims of crime.

⚓🌊 Big news for Collingwood! 🌊⚓
Get ready to welcome something truly extraordinary to our harbour! On Monday, June 8, the Town of Collingwood and the Collingwood Yacht Club are thrilled to welcome EMIRA IV — a cutting-edge IMOCA 60 foiling racing yacht — for the summer season.

This isn’t just any sailboat… it’s one of the fastest and most advanced offshore racing yachts in the world, capable of speeds over 70 km/h — and it’s making a rare Canadian appearance right here in Collingwood!

Even more exciting? The campaign is led by local sailor Scott Shawyer, who’s on a mission to become the first Canadian to complete the legendary Vendée Globe in 2028. His journey is all about pushing boundaries and asking: What if you truly went after your potential? 💪

👀 See it up close:
Docked in Collingwood Harbour all summer
Free guided boat tours on June 13 & 20 (limited spots!)
Public viewing, community events, and more to come
