Visit Nanaimo Hospice House or the Hospice Thrift Shoppe to place a memory card on our special remembrance trees in honour of a loved one.

This year, we're introducing a new way to remember your loved ones! Create a personalized digital ornament in their honour and receive it by email as a special keepsake.

🎉 Congratulations to Our 50/50 Raffle Winner! 🎉

We are excited to announce that Lorna Janz is the lucky winner of our Give the Gift of Hope 50/50 Raffle, taking home $2,185! 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and supported this fundraiser!
Thanks to your generosity, $2,185 will also go toward supporting our Child & Youth Grief Support Programs, helping children and youth in our community navigate their grief journeys.

🌺 A Special Art That Gives Back ❤️

We were delighted to welcome local artist Kelly Mitchelmore yesterday as she brought in her stunning original poppy painting!
Just in time for Remembrance Day, this beautiful piece is now proudly displayed in our waiting room at Nanaimo Hospice House.

This beautiful painting is now on sale for $1,200, and Kelly has generously offered to donate 50% of the proceeds to Nanaimo Community Hospice, helping us continue providing grief support programs and services at no cost to children, youth, adults, and families in our community.
50% supports Nanaimo Community Hospice, while the remaining 50% goes directly to the artist.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Kelly for sharing her beautiful artwork with us and for supporting our mission through her creativity and generosity!

Hi, it’s Keiko from Marketing.

Years ago, my grandmother passed away on Halloween.
At the time, grief support wasn’t something my family and I had access to, and we didn’t really know how to navigate the waves of emotions that came with losing someone we loved.
Looking back, I often think about how different that experience might have been if we had access to grief programs like those offered by Nanaimo Community Hospice, and a community reminding us that we didn’t have to navigate grief alone.

Halloween is a time when people dress up as their favorite characters and heroes.
If I were dressing up as one of mine, I’d dress up as a Nanaimo Hospice Volunteer — because our volunteers truly are the heart of hospice.

🌿 November Scent & Grief Session: The Comfort of Vanilla 🌿

Did you know that vanilla is one of the most popular scents in the world?

For our November Scent & Grief session on November 4th, we will explore the comforting aromas of Vanilla and Benzoin.

Vanilla – Helps to quiet the mind to improve the quality of sleep.
Benzoin – A fragrant tree resin with a sweet, vanilla-like aroma, benzoin offers a sense of emotional warmth, evoking feelings of peace and tranquility.

Together, these beautiful scents remind us of the sweetness that life holds, even during times of grief.

Through our monthly Scent & Grief program, we create a gentle space to explore how scent can support emotional and physical well-being and offer moments of comfort along the grief journey.

This program is available to Nanaimo Community Hospice clients.

Our traditional Memory Trees are returning to Nanaimo Hospice House and the Nanaimo Hospice Shoppe, and this year, we’re excited to offer a new online way to participate!
