A huge thank you to Co-operators Insurance & Investments for having us at their booth at the Commercial Street Night Market last week!

Having the opportunity to be there, connect with the community and spread awareness about Stock the Lockers means so much. Support like this helps us reach more of our community!

Thank you for helping us spread the word!

Stock the Lockers is about more than school supplies. It’s about removing some of the barriers that can make starting a new school year difficult for students and families.

When students have the essentials they need, they can walk into the classroom feeling prepared, confident and ready to learn.

Sometimes, something as simple as a backpack, a pair of shoes, a lunch or a notebook can mean so much more than the item itself.

When we remove barriers, students can focus on what matters most: learning, growing and thriving. 💙

Meet Kathy Berg, NLSF Board Chair!

We’re continuing our Meet the Board series and introducing you to the people who generously share their time, experience, and passion with the Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools Foundation.

Here’s a little bit about Kathy:

📌 Her role: Board Chair at NLSF

💼 Her day job: Financial Planner with RBC.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Her favourite way to spend her time: When she’s not working or volunteering with NLSF, Kathy loves spending time with family and friends, exploring the Island and enjoying the many trails around us.

🌲 Her favourite local spot: Kathy lives in Lantzville, so it’s hard to beat the local trails, especially Lantzville Lookout, or being just steps away from the beach!

🏃‍♀️ Her favourite school memory: Sports Day! Growing up on the Mainland, it was the highlight of the year. And apparently, hot dogs, donuts and McDonald’s orange drink just hit differently on Sports Day. 😂

💙 What she loves about our community: The willingness of people to help whether that’s through volunteering, donating or both.

🎓 A softer side: Kathy says she’s a pretty open book, but one thing that might surprise people is how emotional she gets at NLSF’s Graduation Awards & Scholarship Night. She’s incredibly proud of the students and deeply appreciative of the donors and school district who help make those opportunities possible.
And honestly? We think that soft side is one of the best things about her. 💙

We’re so grateful for Kathy’s leadership, heart and commitment to helping students across our district thrive.

Give Kathy a 👋 in the comments and help us celebrate our Board Chair!

We know the cost of going back to school can create real barriers for families. School supplies, clothing, food, fees and other essentials can add up quickly, and no student should feel like they’re missing out because of those costs.

🎒 So, how can you access support through Stock the Lockers? 🎒

➡️ The best place to start is your child’s school.

NLSF works closely with schools and educators across our School District 68 to help identify students and families who could benefit from Stock the Lockers support.
Let your child’s teacher, school staff or school administration know that you would like to access support through Stock the Lockers.

If school supplies or other back to school costs are creating financial pressure for your family, reach out to your school and let them know you’d like support through Stock the Lockers.

The impact of Stock the Lockers goes much deeper than the supplies we see being donated. Behind the school supplies is a student who may be facing barriers we don't always see.

As shared by a Child & Youth Family Support Worker at John Barsby Community School, the support provided through Stock the Lockers can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and families.

It's not just about having the right supplies for the first day of school. It's about helping students feel supported, included, prepared and ready to learn.

Stock the Lockers runs until September 15. Learn more and find out how you can help at nlsf.ca.

🚐✨ Big news for Food4Schools!

We’re excited to share a first look at our new NLSF delivery van — the next step in strengthening how we support students across our community. 💙

This van will soon be fully branded and outfitted with racking and refrigeration, helping us safely and efficiently deliver food to schools throughout Nanaimo and Ladysmith.

Every upgrade like this means more reliable deliveries, fresher food, and ultimately more students supported each day. 🍎🥪

Thank you to our incredible community and partners who make growth like this possible — we can’t wait to get this van on the road!
