Applications now being accepted online for this annual vocal prize, in memory of Brigadier-General Sheila A. Hellstrom, native of Lunenburg, NS and lifelong opera aficionado. The prize is offered by the Maritime Concert Opera Society of Lunenburg, NS. In addition to the $1500 main prize, this year MCO are also offering up to two runner-up prizes of $500 each.

Open to all singers born and/or raised in New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland & Labrador, this competitive prize seeks to support the education of the next generation of opera singers with Maritime roots.

You must be currently enrolled in any accredited University, College or Conservatory for vocal music at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Please see the MCO website for details of required audition selections and supporting materials, as well as the link to the application form. There is a $25 fee for your application payable by e-transfer. the deadline is April 30, 2026.
