We are Shore Group. We are more than just a team and a Board of Directors; we ourselves are chefs, food business owners and passionate members of the community who came together to create a non-profit that aims to deliver a needs-based, sustainable and reliable service for our neighbours in need.

This shot of our team was taken when we recently adopted a floor at MacLeod Cares Nursing Home in Mahone Bay and dropped off gift packages we put together with help from friends, family and community members in support of the "Santa's for South Shore Seniors" initiative.

The Santa's for South Shore Seniors initiative was started to support senior citizens during what can be, for some, the loneliest time of year. The group's purpose is to spread holiday cheer, gifts, and support to those who may otherwise be alone or without family and friends during the holiday season.

This year, we (Shore Group) came together with family, friends and members of the community to put together gift bags of essentials for seniors who may need them. They also chose to adopt a floor in their name at the MacLeod Cares Nursing Home. Not only are we passionate about doing our part to ensure none of our neighbours go hungry, but we also want to make sure no one feels alone or without something special to help lift their spirits during what should be a fun, festive and cheerful time of year.

If you wish to get involved with our ongoing initiatives aimed at serving our community here on the South Shore, get in touch by emailing [email protected]!

Norberto Cáceres, our Executive Director, is an experienced chef who first immigrated to Canada back in 2003. He eventually relocated to Mahone Bay for family reasons, and is now proud to call the South Shore home.

He started his culinary journey in chef school and eventually went on to work for 10+ years in the industry managing food service establishments under top Toronto chefs. His passion shifted to the private sector of Toronto’s largest nonprofits for social justice and food security, where he held leadership roles for another 10+ years. Norberto also has extensive experience delivering and managing food programming, community kitchens, drop-in meal services and beyond.

His role as Shore Group's Executive Director has allowed him to continue to pursue his passion of helping improve the well-being and resiliency of his local community.

This Giving Tuesday, help your neighbours in need and join us to fight hunger on the South Shore of Nova Scotia!

Here at Shore Group, we understand that hunger is a consequence of poverty, but we also believe that our close-knit community can come together to gather the resources and funds necessary to fight hunger and bridge the inequality gap. As so many of us know, Nova Scotia is currently the most food insecure province in the country and people all around us, including children and youth, are going hungry.

We recently launched a GoFundMe: if you can spare the cost of your morning coffee, a single meal, or a few days worth of groceries... Every donation counts! That being said, we understand that it is becoming more and more difficult to make ends meet, especially around this time of year. Simply sharing this post or the link to our GoFundMe campaign would be a huge help!

A wonderful testimonial from Marc Langlois, Founder of Food Vibes in Riverport about our community cook in November. Our Executive Director, Norberto Cáceres came together with help from local volunteers to prepare meals for the 'We Feed Lunenburg' pantry; a facility that is open daily and serves a wide area, including patrons from Riverport.

Stay tuned for details on our next Community Cook in December. Interested to volunteer your time to support Shore Group and help your neighbours in need? Send us a message here on social or email [email protected].

We are Shore Group, a nonprofit based in the heart of Mahone Bay with a mission to serve and support our neighbours in need.

As chefs and food business owners, our first priority is to address hunger by preparing ready-to-eat meals for our local Food Banks and food security-focused organisations as well as by engaging community volunteers, raising funds, and offering dedicated delivery. We are also proud to provide options and to accommodate community members with dietary restrictions, allergies and special requirements.

We recently launched a multi-tiered GoFundMe campaign, with the first goal to help us raise the funds required to fight hunger, food insecurity, and to lend a hand to those who need it the most right here in Mahone Bay and our surrounding South Shore communities.

We've launched a GoFundMe campaign, and we need your support!

Here at Shore Group, we recognize that something has to change when it comes to food security in our community. While we are so proud of what our organization has been able to achieve so far, Nova Scotia is still the least food secure province in Canada. In fact, Food Banks Canada gave us a D- in their poverty report card earlier this year. We did even worse when it comes to poverty measures... we received an F.

This GoFundMe campaign will start with the first of three fundraising phases, with an initial goal of raising $12,000 to maintain our meals for 200+ people per month; neighbours in need and community members who need them the most. From there, we will increase our targets along the way to continue to raise the funds needed to create a community hub in Mahone Bay that offers programs and services free of charge and open to all.

Check out the GoFundMe and consider donating to our cause: https://loom.ly/7zKjzbA

All donations are welcome, as much or as little as you can afford. The cost of your daily coffee, a single meal, or groceries for a week. We understand that times are tough, and you may prefer to donate your time to volunteer, ideas to help our cause, or simply by sharing this post/the link to our GoFundMe to help spread the word. Every action counts!

This is a long-term campaign, and we will continue to raise as much as we can to 'shore up' for our community; to fight hunger and food insecurity locally and beyond for years to come.

While we currently service the town of Mahone Bay and surrounding areas within a 5km radius, we aim to continue to expand to a larger service area as our capacity and team grows. Food insecurity is a serious issue in Mahone Bay, on the South Shore, and in communities all across the province/the country at large.
