It’s lunar flyby day!

Today, the Artemis II crew flies around the Moon, returning humans to its vicinity for the first time in over 50 years.

This is a portion of one of two quilts created for the Next Giant Leap: Lunar Quilt Block Challenge, celebrating the Artemis program. Each block was designed and made by students and quilters across the United States, imagining what this next chapter of exploration means.

Over the next several days, I’ll share more about the quilts and the stories behind them.

Amazing!

In our latest episode: A New Generation of Quilters Are Leading the Way

Meet Lorelai Kuecker, a 15-year-old sensation shining a light on the next generation of quilters and inspiring excitement with her incredible skills. Along with creating award-winning quilts — including First place in the QuiltCon youth division — she’s now using her math and longarming skills to design custom garments to complement each quilt.

In our new show, Lorelai demonstrates how to make a fashion statement with bell bottoms by upcycling a pair of jeans with quilted inserts. She walks through each step — from preparing the template, selecting a suitable pattern to quilting and finishing — then demonstrates how to insert the panels and achieve a clean, polished look with binding.

Join Quilter, Susan Aylesworth, for a colour-talk and sew-along! Saturday, November 29, 10:30am-12:30pm at our Margaret Hennigar Public Library!

Spend a couple of hours playing with bits of fabric, and sewing scraps together! Make a square that can be the start of a quilt or any other sewing project you can think of. The technique is called string piecing and it's a fun way to use up small bits of fabric and odd bobbins of thread.

Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies that you like to have on hand for sewing, such as scissors and thread. Fabric scraps will be provided.

Registration required, call (902) 543-9222

Some sewing machines available for borrow.
Please contact the branch for more details.

Tumbling Blocks Quilt Block Saturday October 18$85.00 The Tumbling Block quilt is a classic! We love the three-dimensionality created with color making it look like boxes stacked on top of each other. But it’s an intimidating pattern to master because of the dreaded “Y” seam – that tricky po...
