A volunteer, non-profit organization founded to protect and conserve the natural environment of the islands and shoreline of Mahone Bay. History
A number of concerned residents began meeting in the fall of 2002 as a direct response to the accelerated private development of many of the Mahone Bay Islands. This development includes road construction, housing, deforestation, landscaping, wharf and seawall construction, all of which result in significant changes to the natural island environment. MICA held its first public meeting on March 29, 2003 in Mahone Bay with the purpose of explaining the concerns of the organization and gauging the level of general public support for the Mission. The audience provided overwhelming support for the work of the Association and provided solid encouragement for continuing the work towards the Mission. MICA held the second public meeting on July 16, 2003 at the Lunenburg Yacht Club with the purpose of providing a progress update and introducing the Conservation Area concept. Again, the audience provided much encouragement and reinforcement for the group to continue its activities. For more information please visit our website at http://www.mahoneislands.ns.ca
