The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals At LAWS, each animal is treated like a member of the family.

We get to know their needs and personalities, and can help you choose the one that will be a good fit for you. With their health and wellbeing in mind, our animals are spayed/neutered, socialized, and have had their shots - all included in one reasonable adoption fee.

Our LAWS 50/50 Raffle is heating up, and Bella is here to remind us why community support matters so much. 🧡

Bella and Randy are a bonded pair of Shih Tzu mixes who need a little extra care to feel their best. Both have ongoing conditions that require medication and regular monitoring, but with the dedicated attention they’ve received here, these two have been feeling so much better. Their playful, funny personalities are shining through.

Caring for animals like Bella and Randy takes more than love (though there’s plenty of that!). It takes veterinary visits, medication, and the resources to keep them comfortable and enjoying life. As a community-funded shelter, we rely on people like you to make that possible.

Every 50/50 ticket gives you a chance to win half the proceeds, while the other half supports the animals at LAWS. Let’s keep this raffle growing!

Autumn with the LAWS dogs! 🍁

Fall is a fan favourite here, and our dedicated animal care team has been making the most of it with the dogs at LAWS.

While they’re with us, we get to watch each dog grow, build confidence, and reveal more of their unique personality. Alongside daily care and medical support, that means providing tailored enrichment, new experiences, and opportunities to learn and explore. Life doesn’t stop when a dog enters the shelter; there are still skills to develop and plenty of moments to enjoy along the way.

Of course, the best part is seeing them head off to their forever homes, where a whole new chapter awaits. Maybe that means adventuring on woodland trails, learning new things with their people, or simply curling up on the couch while the leaves fall outside. 🍂🧡

Finding the right match starts with getting to know each dog as an individual. We consider their personality, needs, and what helps them thrive so we can find a home where they can truly settle in and be themselves.

Kaz is HOME!

Last Saturday was a busy day at LAWS, but something extra special happened at the end of it: Kaz went home with Jenilee and Dave. ❤️

Seeing him head off home with people who understand him was the best outcome we could have hoped for. Kaz already knew and loved Jenilee from her work with the dogs here at the shelter, and he bonded with Dave right away. He was so ready to get going that he nearly made it into the car before we could take a photo.

Once home, Kaz wasted no time exploring the trails on their property, getting his silly zoomies out, enjoying plenty of cuddles, and discovering his favourite napping spots. He’s settled right in and we couldn’t be happier for him. 🥰

This adoption is especially meaningful for our team because Jenilee has been such a valued part of Kaz’s journey. Through Pet Behaviour Solutions, she brings knowledge, patience, and a thoughtful approach to helping dogs feel safe and understood. She also generously volunteers her time at LAWS, helping our team build the skills and confidence to better support the animals in our care. Jenilee meets each dog where they are, builds trust at their pace, and gives them choices. Seeing dogs learn and grow while they’re here at LAWS is a gift in itself, and we’re so grateful for her contributions.

Knowing that one of those dogs has gone home with the person who helped them along the way has been pretty special. Thank you, Jenilee and Dave, for giving Kaz such a wonderful home.

Happy trails, Kaz! We’re so excited for all the adventures, naps, cuddles, and zoomies ahead.

Tucker’s got a smile for you, and we’ve got a way to make a difference!

Tucker is a friendly 5-year-old English Bulldog mix who loves hanging out, chasing his ball (once or twice), and looking like he knows a pretty good secret. 😉

Every ticket gives you a chance to win half the jackpot, while the other half stays here at LAWS to support the animals in our care.

This summer, kitten season pushed us to the limits of our capacity. Our dedicated foster homes were caring for as many as 100 mother cats and kittens at a time, many needing close monitoring, specialized food, and urgent veterinary care. Your support helps us provide the treatment and essentials these vulnerable little ones need.

✨ A quick heads up! ✨

Our LAWS Thrift Store will be closed Tuesday, October 20 while we replace some windows.

We’re planning to be back open on Wednesday at 10:00 am as usual.
