350 Canada

350 Canada 🌍 We’re tackling corporate greed and the climate crisis. Let’s build a liveable future for All of Us. 📣 350 means climate safety.

To preserve our planet, scientists tell us we must reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 392 parts per million to below 350 ppm. But 350 is more than a number—it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.
350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the

best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world. We operate at a large scale to take on the world's greatest challenge. In October of 2009 we coordinated 5200 simultaneous rallies and demonstrations in 181 countries, what CNN called the 'most widespread day of political action in the planet's history.' On 10/10/10, we organized a day of climate solutions projects--from solar panel installations to community garden plantings--and changed communities from the bottom up with over 7,000 events in 188 countries. And at the end of last year, we coordinated a climate art project so large it had to be photographed from a satellite in outer space.

🫠 Carney wants to build a bunch of data centres that Canadians don’t want to “create a market” for fracked gas that the rest of world doesn’t need … in order to produce AI slop, enrich American tech billionaires, steal work and slash jobs, and emit 50 megatons of greenhouse gases annually!?!?

Comment “action” for the link to our organizing call this Wednesday!

This new polling proves what we already knew. Most Canadians reject the false choice between climate action and building our economy. They expect our governments to make progress on both at the same time.

The bad news is that our politicians are still not listening. Danielle Smith is set to propose a new tar sands pipeline route as early as July 1st and the recent deal between Alberta and Canada is clearing the path to make it a reality.

That’s why 350 Canada is organizing a national day of action for June 25, a week before that July 1st deadline. We’ll show up on MPs’ doorsteps across the country and tell them to sign a deal with the people, not with Big Oil.

We’re hosting an organizing call this Wednesday, June 17 to share our plan and show you how you can take action.

BREAKING: Over 60 unions, civil society organizations, Indigenous and faith groups have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister calling for an excess profits tax on oil and gas companies.

Polling released last week shows that two thirds of Canadians support taxing the windfall profits of oil and gas corporations, with the revenues used to address the cost of living crisis and lower our energy bills.

The scale of corporate profiteering by the fossil industry while people across Canada contend with high fuel bills is staggering: oil companies are set to make $10 million per hour based on conservative estimates. A 75% tax on excess profits 120% above pre-crisis profit levels would generate more than $40 billion that could be given back to Canadians.

The writing’s on the wall: an excess profits tax is a feasible, practical, and popular solution.

We deserve better. People across Canada will bear the environmental and economic risks of a new oil pipeline — while wealthy, largely U.S.-owned companies reap the profits.

Right now, Prime Minister Carney is gutting environmental guardrails, ignoring Indigenous communities, and fast-tracking destruction. And instead of helping everyday Canadians lower our bills, his government is giving massive handouts to oil and gas companies.

Every dollar that we sink into a new pipeline is a dollar not invested in true nation-building projects like an East-West electricity grid, renewable energy, public transit, and affordable housing.

Comment or hit the link in our bio to call on our government's to sign a deal with the people to protect our future, our climate, and our communities.

💥 GOOD NEWS for a change! 💥

We’ve forced Carney to slow down on his reckless proposal to fast-track destructive mega-projects.

Now let’s keep pushing! Comment for ways to keep up the pressure.
