Prepare yourselves!๐Ÿš€

Space School is an onboarding initiative run by the satellite team. Space School is a yearlong program that has students building a miniature satellite in small teams and at the end of the year, the miniature satellites are launched in a stratospheric balloon.

This program includes weekly labs and workshops as well as presentations by people who have worked in the space industry.

The first meeting is this Thursday from 7:00-8:30pm in the QSET Room (BMH 115F). No need to sign up!

Space School is open to students of any year and faculty in and outside of engineering. No need to fill in any application, just out on Thursday.

URC 2024 has officially concluded, and the results are out! QSET has achieved an outstanding 1st place among all Canadian teams and secured 7th place worldwide! This year's turnout was impressive, with 102 teams participating, including 38 competitors invited to Utah.

The team dedicated immense effort to building, maintaining, and modifying their rover in preparation for the competition. Under the guidance of incredible leaders and with the contributions of all members, they successfully created a robust system that surpassed the rigorous tests set by URC. Their hard work and dedication truly paid off! Competing against other exceptionally talented teams, they excelled and earned their place among the top competitors.

We are incredibly proud of QSET's accomplishment!

Congratulations to all the well-deserved winners and competitors!

The Rover sub-team is hiring equipment leads!

Lead positions are an excellent opportunity to build cross-disciplinary skills by specializing in projects related to one of the rover's main sub-components.

Application deadline is June 21 at 10:00 pm EST.

For more information, and to apply, see the links in our bio!

Come talk to us tomorrow in Mitchell Hall to learn more about QSET and how to get involved!

The Queen's Space Engineering Team competed at the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC) from May 29th to June 1st, 2023. We are incredibly proud to announce that QSET placed 3rd amongst the 8 teams that participated this year.

The team brought their 3U CubeSat to the Canadian Space Agencyโ€™s David Florida Laboratory for vibrational testing with the purpose of this test was to demonstrate our satellite's structural integrity against the forces experienced during a rocket launch. This is an outstanding accomplishment for QSET as this year the team designed the entire satellite from the ground up, designing, building and testing systems for electrical power, command & data-handling, radio communication, attitude determination and control, mechanical and thermal, and an optical system to be used for an Earth Observation mission.

Thank you to the 2022-2023 Satellite executive team Emma Paczkowski, Jillian Malherbe, Jacob Lambert, Matthew Uhthoff, Tye Dougherty, Jacob O'Riordan-Ross, Sydney Caulfeild, Aidan Sheedy, and Sean Tedesco. Thank you to everyone who put in the countless hours to the satellite project and all of the events and activities surrounding it.

As well, thank you to Queen's University - Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science for their continued support of the team's efforts. It's been a pleasure to represent across Canada.

URC has now officially finished and the results are in! QSET placed 1st in Canada and 7th in the world! It was a stacked competition with 104 teams entering URC and 37 invited out to compete in Utah.

QSET worked tirelessly throughout the previous Summer, Fall and Winter terms to design and build the rover we used to compete. Under our excellent leadership, we were able to create robust systems that could withstand the tests URC put us through. The hard work put into the rover paid off. This is the highest percentile QSET has ever placed and the competing teams are the best they've ever been, making this placement something we're extremely proud of!

Congratulations to West Virginia, Monash University, and BYU for getting 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively!

Photos from our autonomous task at URC! We traverse the treacherous terrain of the mars-like desert fully autonomously! We must navigate to different coordinates and search for ArUco tags.

This year we had a shaky start with our rover fighting itself by three wheels moving forward and one backwards. The rover dug itself a hole in the first 5 minutes of the task but thanks to the amazing redesign of the wheels we got out! After the first 3 points our mast snapped in half and we lost comms :( . Despite the issues, we managed to get to 3/6 points and earn 42/100 points!

Our captain also made friends with the North Site dog Martin!
