Tea & Torah with Leora: Parashat Ki Tisa
Fresh on the heels of Purim comes this weekโs parsha Ki Tisa. Its a lot. Ki Tisa takes us from the highest highs to the lowest lows almost back to back. Moses is on the mountain receiving Torah, and down below the people panic, lose patience, and build the Golden Calf. The tablets are shattered. Trust is broken. And then, slowly and painfully, something is rebuilt.
What I love and struggle with in this parsha is how human it is. Fear, waiting, disappointment, anger, repair. Moses arguing with God on behalf of the people. God responding with mercy. A second set of tablets. A face that radiates after surviving closeness with the Divine.
This week is also Shabbat Parah, a moment about purification and preparation before Passover, which makes this parsha feel especially timely. How do we come back after things fall apart. What does repair actually ask of us. And how do we carry holiness forward when it feels fragile.
Weโll be gathering at my place this week for Tea & Torah, with baked goodies and space to sit with a complicated, powerful story together.
