Red Dress Day is a day of awareness and mourning for the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2Spirit people in Canada. Their lives mattered. Their stories matter. Their families matter.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from BC Interior Community Foundation. These funds allow us to continue to provide the important resources we do for the women in our community 🫶

Sometimes, support arrives exactly when it’s needed most.

Thanks to the Stollery Charitable Foundation Fund, we were honoured to award a $10,750 grant to The Family Resource Centre (The Tree).

Recently, The Tree has been navigating an incredibly difficult time. Executive Director Susan Wright experienced the unimaginable loss of her son in a car accident. In moments like these, even the strongest leaders need space to grieve, and organizations need support to carry forward their vital work.

This grant will provide emergency staffing support, ensuring that families continue to receive care, while allowing Susan the time she needs.

Because this is what community philanthropy does. It shows up when it matters most.

Today we recognize the strength, resilience, and leadership of women in our community.

At The Tree, we see every day how women support one another through community. From the women who walk through our doors seeking support, to the staff, volunteers and community members who help make this work possible.

Today is a reminder that when women are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

Thank you to the women who continue to show up, speak up and lift others along the way.

Happy International Women's Day.

We want to share something difficult with our community.

Our Executive Director, Susan Wright, is grieving the loss of her son, JJ Wright.

Susan, her husband Chris, their children JJ and Sarah-Jayne, and their son-in-law Caleb have all been part of The Tree community. JJ’s loss is felt by our staff, participants, and many who spend time in this space. Susan has given so much care and leadership to this organization, both as a professional and as a mother, and we feel this loss alongside her and her family.

We also want to acknowledge the other families who are grieving during this time. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and whose lives have been changed by this loss.

We are taking time to support one another and to continue caring for the women and families who rely on The Tree.

The Tree is a non-profit society and registered Canadian charity. Our vision is one of women’s belonging and recovery. At The Tree we walk with women and their families, facilitating healing, connections and support.

Many people have asked how they can offer support. For those who wish, donations to The Tree are one way to help sustain the work we do alongside women and families in our community. Donations can be made here: https://www.kfrs.ca/donate/. All expressions of care are appreciated.

Thank you for holding Susan, JJ, their family, and our community with care.

We are grateful for partners who invest in our community and help create a brighter season at The Tree. We are still accepting toy donations this week for anyone who would like to contribute!

Still accepting donations! Help make this Holiday season amazing!

The Tree is collecting gifts for both moms and kids this holiday season. Many of the women and families connected to our centre are navigating a lot right now, and these small gestures remind them that their community cares.

We’re accepting new, unwrapped gifts for all ages. Things like self-care items, blankets, journals, small gift cards, toys for kids, books, and art or activity kits are always appreciated.

Your kindness helps create a warm holiday season for women and families in our community.

Thank you for helping us make the season a little brighter.

Recover loudly. Support quietly. It all matters.

This hat was made by one of the women at The Tree. It’s simple, but it carries the heart of what recovery really looks like. Women show up, they create, they connect, and they rebuild their lives in ways that are powerful and deeply personal.

Nonprofits across the country are facing greater pressure than ever. Needs are rising, funding is unpredictable, and essential programs like counselling aren’t guaranteed. For many women, this uncertainty means longer waits at a time when they’re already carrying so much.

Your support today helps keep our counselling program steady. It makes sure women have access to care when they reach out. It fills the gap when funding ends and gives us the room to continue doing meaningful, life-changing work.

If you’re able to give this Giving Tuesday, your donation directly strengthens our counselling program.
