You asked for it and we've delivered! How to take notes that are fun, helpful for visual learners and great for ADHD learners!

Graphic note taking is a an amazing strategy for helping students with ADHD, ASD, FASD, and writing disabilities to collect info in a way they can relate back to and use. If you have ever seen Bonnie's notes from conferences, presentations, and meetings, and you wanted to know how to get into doodling for learning, this is it!

Bonnie will guide you through non-artist ways to capture your thoughts in images and with colour and patterns that will help you stay focused, trigger memory, and work to refer back to.

Do you need a way to adapt learning outcomes so your student can show their learning without writing out an essay or a report? Graphic presentation is an acceptable adaptation for neurodivergent learners!

You will learn and practice in this class, and you get all the tools you need for going home or back to school and starting your own graphic note journey!

You do not need to be artistic to do this! You can draw wavy lines and be great at this!

Two classes to choose from! Space is limited and you must pre-register so book asap! November 9th or November 16th! Kamloops

It's IEP season! If you support families that navigate getting support services in schools, we can help you build your skills and fill your toolbox with great information and resources for the job!

A great individualized education plan focuses on student supports rather than student expectations and performance. What if, rather than measure where we want to go, we created a document that mapped out how we were going to get there?

Too often, planning for students with disabilities or support needs focuses on addressing past behaviours or existing concerns. Documenting proactive supports, addressing individual symptoms that create extra barriers to learning, and securing a commitment to invest resources in the student learning plan create better outcomes for children in their learning journey.

Our two hour workshop delves in to all of this and more. You'll leave with a good sense of the guiding documents that outline the obligations that schools have for students with support needs, how to flip the language back to expectations for the school, rather than the student or family, how to navigate 'no' and 'we don't have capacity' to build out more direct support, and who is who in inclusive education.

Suitable for anyone working with or supporting families that face education exclusions, you can invite your team, or your families, to join a workshop when you book before November 30th.

It's two hours that will translate into countless hours of support for the students in your community.

September 30th is a day for both reflection and action.

The effects of the policies and racism that Canada was founded on are still very present today. That doesn't mean that Canada isn't a beautiful and wonderful place to live. It means that we recognize that our history, our past, needs to be addressed so we can continue to be a country where everyone can thrive.

We will continue to invest in learning and listening. And when we can, lobby and lead.

Inspire Kids is guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings, the Anishinaabe guiding principles. Our work is possible and better because we are guided by our Indigenous Elders.

September 21 marks the beginning of Truth and Reconciliation Week in Canada.

Residential Schools were created by the Canadian government to intentionally strip Indigenous people of their culture and their traditions, forcing them into a Euro-Canadian way of life.

Students sent to Residential Schools were often treated very poorly and were severely punished for breaking rules, acknowledging their Indigenous heritage or speaking their own language.

Survivors have spoken about horrible acts of abuse at the hands of Residential School staff. Many children tried repeatedly to return home. And families were irreconcilably harmed by the loss of their children.

We have a lot of learning and listening to do. And we need to start actively defending this truth. Especially right now.

September 9th is recognized as FASD Awareness Day all around the world!

FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) is the most common developmental disability in Canada. 3-5% of Canadians have FASD.
Our FASD community is part of every classroom, every workplace, every neighbourhood.

In BC, it is extremely hard to get a diagnosis of FASD, and early interventions for kids are rare, and never specific to FASD. Many families seek out an autism diagnosis for their child just to get some kind of support for their family.

In schools, some forms of FASD are not recognized as a disability. And in BC, we do not track students with FASD as a single group of children, so we have little information about how we are doing supporting them.

What we do know is that children with FASD have far higher rates of mental health crisis, school exclusion, judicial involvement, and su***de. Kids with FASD experience isolation, family breakdown, government care, and poor health and homelessness at higher rates than other kids.

More people in prison and on the street have FASD (estimates are up to 80% of these populations have FASD) than any other condition.

Do you know how much funding the Province of BC dedicates to supporting kids with FASD? Next to nothing. Families have access to a keyworker if there is one in their community. This person can direct them to services but has no access to respite, counselling, or community support funding. There is no individualized funding. There are no FASD centred schools in our province. There are no camps, no clubs, no caregiver networks.

This September, we are asking BC NDP to step up and support kids with FASD that are excluded from programs.

In the meantime, if you like, you could sponsor a book club membership for a youth with FASD by donating at www.inspirefasd.ca

Our kids are worth it. Every kid should be thriving....
